Default MB's Video Game Classics: Need For Speed Underground [PS2]

One of the very few PS2 games that I remember playing and absolutely loving. Need For Speed has always been a series that I don't know a whole lot about, but the ones that I've played I've absolutely loved. I just remember Need For Speed Underground being a **** ton of fun.

One of my favorite things about the game though is definitely the soundtrack.

I played it a lot back when it was new, but just for a few days. Can't really remember much about it. I mostly remember two things a) That the game looked kinda cool with all those night time streets and those neon things you could put on your car b) that it was super annoying how "civilian" cars would torpedo you out of nowhere from side streets during races.

Realistic racing games are NOT my genre. I won’t vote on this but I would never ever have any interest in playing it

Not very into the genre but I like a few. The very first Need for Speed game is the only one I bothered keeping around. Those 3 part segmented races never came back in later games and that's balls.

I just don't know why I'd ever turn on a game like this when I can play Mario Kart

I only like Mario Kart as a split-screen multiplayer game. I like games where there's more of a feeling of controlling a physical vehicle. Mario kart is very floaty and such, but then of course, it's designed to be super "arcadey" and not realistic at all. Forza is too far the other way and I just never got into games like that, even though I tried hard to appreciate it. I guess I like medium realistic racing if I have to play a racing game.

Playing Mario Kart as split-screen multiplayer is a given. Single player racing games make zero sense to me. Luckily my fiancee loves Mario Kart and we’ve probably invested 60+ hours of multiplayer on the newest Switch version. It’s our top game to play together, only real competition being Overcooked

I think I played NFS once or twice as a rental, but similar to the Midnight Club racing games, it didn't fill any sort of void that wasn't already being taken care of by Burnout 2: Point of Impact and the Gran Turismo series. Maybe car selection, but I don't know enough about NFS to break it down to that level, or to cast a significant vote either way.
