I thought he was better in The Shape of Water.

Oriphiel 10-11-2018 08:43 AM

I mean, he gets to eat someone in both movies

there's some movies I rated that are tagged as "psychological horror" or something and not plain horror like I was going through yesterday, and some not horror at all though I would differ so I guess here's more stupid ****

Diabeł [The Devil] - I think this movie > Possession. The atmosphere and visual quality is just extra spectacular and the whole thing is mad. I ain't even Polish.

Possession - Going down half a star from the 5/5 Devil but don't ask me to elaborate why because I'm retarded and will not be able to answer. They're both off the wall and Possession surely wins in the squidman intercourse department.

From Beyond - https://www.austinchronicle.com/binary/e4d0/combs.jpg Jeffrey Combs just means it's immediately good. Plus it's the greatest movie ever.

パプリカ [Paprika] - There's enough disturbing and unsettling scenes in this to fill an indefinite sized tank. But at the end of the day it made me so happy and it's just the nicest thing there could be, pretty much made me remember how to feel. But the tense suspense bits are ludicrous with surreal nightmareagery and horribly awesome buzzing soundtracks.

パーフェクト・ブルー [Perfect Blue] - It's not as nice as Paprika but it's all the same ballpark kinda. Well it's a good deal darker.

Beyond the Black Rainbow - This and Under the Skin turn slow boiling science fiction surrealist ambiance into an art form kinda it already is. Deep tones and funereal pace make the horrific imagery that comes around even more melting. Though the pace works against it I think, absorbing you into its cold thrall to the point where you don't want to turn back until discovering the nexus of this terror and then the movie's over.

Pin... [Pin: A Plastic Nightmare] - I was so surprisingly enamored with this and it's become a serious favorite. I was tryna watch Come and See but the file I had was a horrendous dub and I couldn't let that happen, so I settled with this one I downloaded from Youtube on a whim and it was fantastic to me. I'm not gonna try to pass it off as a genius masterpiece of cinema because I could imagine many not agreeing at all, but it's amazing to me. I didn't know how it could turn out with the premise seeming a little silly, this guy growing up way too attached to their doctor father's medical mannequin named Pin and unknowingly speaking for it and just being insane in general, but it managed to offer many chills from out of left field. I also think the acting is superb throughout, specifically the main character who'd go on to Stargate fame, and the ending genuinely had me on the verge of tears cuz I'm a gay ***got.

Santa Sangre - This is my favorite Jodorowsky movie I've seen. It's more humanistic if that's even an applicable descriptor, and a little poignant and lovely. Incidentally another horror to stir up the feelings at the end, though this one actually did have me shed a tear cuz I'm an even gayer ***got.

Some sweet recs here and on the first page, Mondo. I've added a few to my watch list

Definitely a weakness of my horror knowledge is international horror. I've certainly watched some but not nearly enough to consider myself a true expert yet. I'm also intrigued by the film Frown posted on the first page

Some Favorite/Scariest etc scenes

The Thing

Spoiler for dog:
Of course it's the dog scene. Legitimately perhaps the most horrifying thing you could ever see. Every time it just rocks my world.

Also more shoutouts to John Carpenter to show us the uncanny creepiness of stillness, as in there, Prince of Darkness, and Halloween. Something can be so unsettling without making a slightest movement.

The Fly

Spoiler for not the vomiting:
Not a great video but at least the specific scene is there and intact. The transformation is god damn gnarly, but the scene at around 53:10 where Geena Davis births a giant writhing maggot is absolutely pulverizing. I had to pause it the first time after that to gather my composure.

The Shining

Spoiler for ice cream:
It was quite possibly this scene so long ago that ignited the craving for horror. This was off the wall shiver inducing, the fading in of deafness/static to the line delivered while he was still talking out loud , it's like he's addressing you directly.

Under the Skin

Spoiler for skin removal:
Already a visually tantalizing and tense movie, this moment damn near gave me a stroke. The sudden impact followed immediately by the deskeletonizing of this guy, ****ing god.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Spoiler for eyes:
18:14 classic

Audition

Spoiler for not torture:
This movie was already really gripping for a while but was just launched so deep into sudden horror territory when that bag spazzed

Some of the ultimate spooks here. Some of my favorites are the real subtle ones, like Michael standing around in broad daylight watching Laurie as she walks around the neighborhood with her friends, or many of the scenes in It Follows.

Idle Hands
A friggin classic, I watch this damn near every October. It's just sooo fun, and has a great Halloween vibe. One of the all-time greatest horror comedies

I really wanna know if Batlord has seen it. If not, holy ****, that chubby stoner needs to get on that asap.

YorkeDaddy 10-15-2018 06:50 AM

I would be shocked if he hasn’t, it’s right up his alley

The Batlord 10-15-2018 01:53 PM

Totally haven't. Never even heard of it.

It's got pot, booze, stoner zombies, Jessica Alba, and a guy that pretty much does nothing but hang around his truck blasting Motley Crue.

Frownland 10-15-2018 02:17 PM

And it sucks. Totally up your alley.

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 02:25 PM

Another rough day at work?

Frownland 10-15-2018 02:27 PM

It's called taste, look it up. You might as well be raving about a Tyler Perry film.

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 02:31 PM

That bad, huh? How many annoying phone calls did you have to suffer through?

The Batlord 10-15-2018 02:34 PM

Sounded intriguing at first but Frown made it a must watch.

That is how I remember Idle Hands, yes.

If Batman is into live action Disney ****, he'll love it.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 03:18 PM

I had mixed feelings but still liked one of those movies. Eat a dick.

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 03:49 PM

Guess he didn't get that raise after all.

Frownland 10-15-2018 04:17 PM

It's okay to like mediocre things.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 04:20 PM

I'm not gonna disagree that Maleficent was absolutely mediocre, and that's still giving it a tad too much credit, but I just enjoyed the silly but likable performance of Angelina Jolie to an extent that let me ignore all the garbage going on in the rest of the movie. I mean that battle scene at the beginning was painful.

And is it just me or was there a weird lesbian cougar thing going on? Didn't hurt my appreciation of the movie to be perfectly honest.

Frownland 10-15-2018 04:21 PM

That's bob's battle.

Mondo Bungle 10-15-2018 04:23 PM

the best horror comedy is Basket Case

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 04:29 PM

Classic

Same director as Frankenhooker, btw

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and American Psycho for me.

I didn't know that you were a fan!

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 04:58 PM

Eh, you've still got a ways to go before you're Shaggs tier. But then again, who doesn't?

Frownland 10-15-2018 04:59 PM

I borrow too much to even touch their status. I wish I could be so pure.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 05:00 PM

I asked this elsewhere and got recs I don't remember and I still have that movie Frown insisted I see recently on my external hard drive to watch at a moments notice, but... what's good with Lovecraftian horror movies?

Frownland 10-15-2018 05:03 PM

Nothing that you haven't already seen except for maybe Pontypool and Possesion (1981), both of which are more Lovecraftian on a secondary level.

The Batlord 10-15-2018 05:07 PM

So basically what I thought. There is a seriously depressing dearth of Lovecraftian horror movies, at least that are good.

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 05:09 PM

The Crouch End episode of that Nightmares and Dreamscapes mini series was pretty aight

Mondo Bungle 10-15-2018 05:21 PM

well the best would be Braindead no contest, but I don't think it's horror enough to call horror. Football stadiums full of organs not withstanding.

Belial has the most horrifying shrieks found in this dimension

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 08:32 PM

Really, though. It deeply saddens me that Bat is probably never gonna get around to adding Idle Hands to his Infinite Queue of Horror Flicks That He'll Maybe Get Around to Someday, and that Frown is too much of a boring bitch to discuss movies without whining about something as hilariously subjective as "taste".

Saddens me so much that I don't think I'm even up for butt stuff tonight.

Tops

Oriphiel 10-15-2018 08:38 PM

More like Power Bottoms, but alright.

Frownland 10-15-2018 08:44 PM

I agree. It's a powerful flick. I think that the film isn't really about the mother going insane, but rather her son realizing how unstable she was after he started to notice those her demons in himself. Then he brings her out of it by improving his relationship with her as a way to heal/protect both of them and they live on knowing how easy it is to lose a grip on things. I thought that was kinda beautiful.
