I don't like folk.

I said it. I don't like folk. Prove me wrong folks.

also, another installment of the worst music fans:

#19: "LOL lectronic muzik iz terribul n talentles.

Yes, the people who think all electronic music takes no talent to make. Sure, people like Christ. and Lone sure aren't the most interesting, (or talented, even though Christ. was a part of BOC at one point.) but Aphex Twin and Autechre = talented, so STFU. Usually electronic musicians are multi instrumentalists, so they're usually the most talented people out there.

I've had this argument with people a million times over. It's grating on my nerves. I don't even like it when they say commercial music (Katy Perry, etc) takes "no talent" because if they had half an idea of the amount of work involved in studio production they'd kick themselves in the ass for ever thinking that. Same with electronic music. Why do people get it into their heads that synthesizer and computers have been "DO" buttons on them?

Hehe, I must say, most of your rants & prejudices are very, very interesting! Can't say that I connect with them personally (never had such conversations revolving around 'math rock' or 'ectronic muzik iz terribul' ) but I guess an internet forum is a good place to let all your steam out! Anger & strife are still fairly new emotions to me.

Also, 'I don't like folk' sounds sort of...weird? I've always found 'roots music' a better term, although it might encompass a larger number of bands. There's a time (and place maybe?) for everything and only you might prove yourself wrong. But it's alright to not like it though - I don't think anyone will hold it against you .

You know I always get confused with the actual definition of folk music because there are so many sub genres but the stuff I've heard that has been labelled folk I've absolutely loved. Tell me if you like this. She's probably my favourite folk artist:

YouTube - Vashti Bunyan - Diamond day

^meh. I've never really been into folk.

here's another installment of WMF:

#18: Animal Collectivists
The animal collective fans on MB are fine and actually pretty cool, but the Animal Collectivists on youtube and associated sites are ridiculous. I want them all to shut up already and go daydream about Panda Bear naked elsewheres. MBers take note: Don't be like them!

If you don't like it don't force yourself to listen to it.

I don't like Reggae much, in fact if I was in some kind of industrial accident and lost most of my fingers I could still count on one hand how many reggae artists I actually like.

You don't have to be eclectic for the sake of it. Just listen to what you like & move onto other things naturally.

I find that I'm expected to like folk. The closest thing to folk I like is Gastr Del Sol, and that's it.

Why are you? Nobody should expect anything from anyone regarding their personal opinions. A lot of Folk is an acquired taste and it is a genre that lacks progression and experimentation (similar to Reggae Urban ) but if you get into the vibe and the fact that it does exactly what it says on the tin then you may grow to like it.

I recently converted a life long hater of Reggae over the past month or so to liking it once he got what it was about. Some music forms are not meant to go forward and I do think that having these forms of music means that you can appreciate those other genres of music that explore new territory AND musicians who play the music that they love and enjoy.

Not every musician or band wants to become something they are not comfortable with and this happens across the music board and not just in these genres. Motorhead, The Fall, The Ramones and AC/DC essentially play the same music that they began with but that seems much more acceptable than a guy sat with a guitar on his lap lamenting life.

Of course many people prefer the sound of a particular band in the first place and accept that they stick to that (as I do myself) so that should be across the board.
