Default A New Start

Recently I started feeling overwhelmed by my music library. No matter what I turned on I just kept feeling restless. None of it left me feeling satisfied anymore. I couldn't stand it. So I deleted everything I had. So I'm looking to try some new things out. I notice Savannah did something similar. I want recommendations, just to broaden my horizons. Maybe I'll find something new that I love. In all honesty some music I had before will find its way back. But for now, clean slate.

So, recommend me ****. Records. Artists. Songs. Whatever. I'm willing to give anything a shot.

Edit- I guess good to note what I listened to. I had a phase where I was big on metalcore. I also really enjoyed EBM and Trance music. Those were probably my most listened to genres, and I couldn't find much left in any of those genres. I also liked Post Metal for a while, but drifted from it. Feel free to recommend stuff from these genres, it's just what I had lost its shine to me.

Allright, So I'll start with what I just put on my ipod....

Tom Waits-Discography

...Can't stay away from this guy. At first, I thought the only worthwhile Waits stuff was his twisted take on Jazz (See-Blood Money). Boy, was I wrong. He incorporates so many genres into his music that if you're sick of one album, you could probably turn another one on and have it feel fresh.

Well, judging entirely by the fact that you say you liked a bit of trance, it'd be interesting to see how well this albums goes down with you;

^ I Choose Noise by Hybrid. It's Welsh prog-trance, so it's all good.

And then there's this, some electronic stuff which is removed from the styles you listed, but it was one of my favourites from last year, sooooooo;

^ Where Did the Night Fall by UNKLE.

Just give me a shout if you want linksies eh.

I chose a pretty obvious choice for my first download...so heres another thing I stumbled upon.

Dessa- A Badly Broken Code

Dessa is a female rapper, and what a rapper She is. Imagine an english teacher who liked a bit of jazz and decided to pick up a mic and give'r. Her vocabulary is excellent and quite simply a lovely listen. I'm not very good at describing it so here is some previews.

YouTube - Dessa - Matches to Paper Dolls

YouTube - Dessa - Dutch

So, reviewing stuff that Bulldog Sent me

Hybrid-I Choose Noise

As you see not two posts above me it was described as prog trance. I didn't know what to expect so I just turned it on and listened. First few tracks seemed like basic trance fare, including guest vocals. Then with tracks like Last Man Standing and Choke things got a bit kinkier. Honestly, I think this album's better part is the dark, kinky, almost industrial side.

rating 3.5/5

LTJ Bukem- Journey Inwards

Hot damn it's good. It's a mix of DnB, Ambient, Downtempo, with a whole lot of jazz flourishes throughout. Amazing album for nightdriving, or walking at night

5/5

Puscifer- Don't Shoot The Messenger EP

Forever ago, I tried out Puscifer's album V is for Vagina. Being a fan of A Perfect Circle and Tool, I expected to enjoy it. I was so underwhelmed by that album. I felt there was little to nothing on it I could listen to on a regular basis. Now in my situation, I decided to give this EP a spin. The entire thing is solid gold. From the desolate march of Trekka to the sexy noir song about sin that is Rev 22-20, this is something I can get behind.

5/5

You might want to give The Vincent Black Shadow a go.

They are an alternative rock band that sometimes sound like they have a big beat sound. An example of this comes in the form of the track "Metro".

Listen to their first album Fears in the Water.

Here is a fun listen...try Die Antwoord. A south african hip hop group that is drenched in electronica. The pleasant surprise that you might find out is that Hi-Tek is a part of the group.

Their music videos are just as fun as the songs that you hear on the album so after you give that a go, check out their videos. They had me in stitches.

Good call there. Dessa is scary good. Have you heard her stuff with Doomtree? It's amazing how well she works as part of a collective.

No, Dessa is the first part of Doomtree that has even appeared on my radar. I want to hear this stuff now. Looks like I got a lot of downloading to do.
