I love Coltrane, but have yet to hear that album. BTW I've added Wolves in Sheepskin to the list.
(Albums). And good luck listening to WISK, it's kind of challenging. Indecent Vibrations and Knuckle In the Mud are good starting places.

Oh lord. That paragraph bought back memories for me as well. We all had that one summer and that one soundtrack. I will give that album a try out of respect.

I see you have added Elliott Smith to your post on the first page. He kicks butt and you should totally look forward to hearing him. I think XO might be the best place to start, but Either/Or is also fantastic.

Some albums I listened to today:

Danzig - Danzig

I did this for Metal Month II. While it wasn't as brutal as I expected, I found the lyrics to be a turnoff. They were just too "metal" for me. I did really like "Evil Elvis" Danzig's vocal style though, which sounded like the King with a bit of Jim Morrison thrown in. I'll probably post a longer review later.
2/5

Elliot Smith - XO

Nothing to say except wow. Ki and Briks have called this the "perfect" album, and I can see why. Beatles fans might especially enjoy it, but any music fans are depriving themselves by not listening. I don't believe in giving out a rating like this very often, but:
5/5

Love - Forever Changes

Some classic psych I hadn't heard before. Bloody good stuff that's easily up there with Sgt. Pepper's and The Doors.
4/5

My initial plan for Metal Month II was to explore folk metal in Uprooting, my folk journal. For the most part, it was a failure, principally due to the vocal quality of that particular subgenre. However, I'm going to be featuring a couple more mini-reviews of metal albums, beginning with:

  • Briks had compared Glenn Danzig's vocals to those of Elvis, but my first thought upon hearing them was Jim Morrison, which is never a bad thing.
  • The guitar work was excellent throughout, as was the drumming.
  • The lyrics were the album's weak point. I just found them laughable for the most part.
  • I'm not a fan by any means, but it was better than I expected. Without the cliched lyrics, it might get a higher rating, but as things stand, I only feel justified to give it:
2/5

Default Pet_Sounds rants

Pet_RANTS!

I am a Beatles fan. I was infected with the Beatlemania virus a year and a bit ago. Since then, I've listened to them a LOT. But I can't stand most other Beatles fans. You know, the kind you read about who collect every single bit of Beatles memoribilia they can get their mitts on until their house becomes a bloody shrine! Or the kind who say, "The Beatles were the greatest rock band of all time, and that's an understatement." Or the kind who are so myopially nostalgic that they can't listen to any current music without making it pass "The Beatles test". Or, worst of all, the kind who treat John Lennon like Christ's second coming. The man donated money to the IRA! How is that following the message of "Revolution"?

It's gotten to the point where I find myself much more interested in discussing music with someone who dislikes the Beatles.

NOTE: Almost all the other Beatles fans on here are cool. You guys know your stuff and aren't myopic.

I've mentioned Supertramp a fair bit around here lately. However, it had been a little while since I'd listened to them, so I decided to drag out my old greatest hits CD. Almost finished now. I forgot just how good they are. As a pianist, I love the heavy keyboard presence. Vocals are fantastic. It's nice to hear saxophone instead of guitar. "Give a Little Bit", "Breakfast in America", "Take the Long Way Home", "Bloody Well Right", and "Crime of the Century" are all masterpieces.

Are we thinking of the same songs?
