Default Reluctant Adventures In Music I Don't Like...

Decided to make a new journal. Feeling inspired and rest assured, there will be regular posts in both of my journals from here on out...

Forum member Exo_ has inspired me, after more or less putting me in a timeout corner, to venture out, to seek out music I know I have never been fond of as a way to possibly open my heart up to it. Ever since I took notice to music, I have had a specific taste in what music I like/lover, whatever way you could spin it. There have been very few pop artists, country artists, rap artists, so on and so forth, that I have found anything I could connect with musically, to any of those genres I mentioned. Michael Jackson is an exception, the guy made great music.

This thread will serve its purpose in documenting my adventures. I will post up little comments on artists I have checked out, outside of the genres I listen to every day. I hope that this will make me less bitter toward a lot of the artists I despise now, such as Taylor Swift or Niki Minaj...however her name is spelled. I think that my music knowledge could very well be a bit stunted with how closed minded I am to other genres of music I have openly expressed are garbage these days. I want to change my opinion on those genres.

I'll be checking out:

Pop
Country
Rap
R&B (don't actually hate it, just find myself bored of it...)
Emo
Punk (so, this genre in no way sucks, I just never found myself connecting with it...)
Folk
EDM
World Music

And some others. I will take suggestions happily. I am eager to start this adventure! Here we go!

Well, I really don't know really anything about the genre. I couldn't even really describe what true Folk music is, but I know I've heard it. Feel free to just post some things for me to check out, as I'll be pretty new to the genre.

How do you want this to work then? We suggest you stuff in here or via PM? I'd suggest some albums for whichever genre you want.

Loreena McKennitt's The Visit
Simon and Garfunkel's Bookends
Bob Dylan's Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

Maybe some Dan Fogelberg as well.

Those are all pretty good starters.

I am fine with people posting suggestions here, my inbox would be overflowing if I had people suggest things via PM.

And, Goofle I can't suggest albums from really any of those genres. I could only give the names of the artists or bands I'd like to really take a good listen to. Truthfully though, I'd rather people just post suggestions, rather than me ask for specific artists or bands I want to check out.

Think that'd work alright?

Cool, first three to check out, thanks! I'll post up my thoughts within the next day or two Sounds.

I think Emo will be a bit of a task for me to really give it a good listen, the genre always seemed to get on my nerves. But I am up for the challenge of giving it a fair shot.

I don't think Goof was asking you for albums, I think he was offering to suggest some.

How about Progressive Rock? You into that at all? Classical? AOR? Ambient?
