Today's review is Self Defense Family's Heaven Is Earth (Post-Hardcore, Emo, Post-Punk, Indie Rock)

In My Defense In Self Me Defend: Slow song. Repetitive riffs and vocals. Gives it an ambient personality after a bit.

Talia: The song's have fantastic flow thus far. This is a lot better. Has a bit more of a build.

Prison Ring: Ok, we're picking up speed a bit more here. Vocals are a bit more melodic. And we're back to the yelling. And more melodic singing. Really digging the album so far. I'm thinking three and a half stars.

Ditko: This song definitely moves away from the guitar driven tracks into a more drum driven song. Really like this song.

Everybody Wants A Prize for Feeling: The further I get into this, the more it reminds me of Atlas by Parkway Drive. And the longer I listen the more I enjoy this album.

Heaven Is Earth: Slow... very slow. And long

Basic Skills: Well, this is a different from the rest of the album. The vocalist seems to of changed... so far, I'm not sure if i love this or hate it.

Dave Sim: And we're back to the Atlas sounding tracks.

My final thoughts are basically, I don't know if I love this album or hate it. It reminds me of A Moon Shaped Pool in the fact that after the first listen, I didn't know how to feel. Maybe a second listen will help.

I mean Tristan is getting a spot cause he's a talented drummer. I haven't talk to Ki about it yet, but he might get a spot cause he's talented with synth based music. I'm not letting just anyone on it.
Pshh I'm not "just anyone"
and idk what I can do actually. more like I try things as needed and if it doesn't work out O WEL

Then no, you don't get a spot on my album.

Time to give a more definitive answer to weather or not I liked Self Defense Family's Heaven Is Earth.

So last time I listened to this album I listened to it on a cheapy Bluetooth speaker. This time I'm listening to it on my nice studio quality headphones.

So the difference? The headphones actually allow me to hear the musicality of the music. And wow is it better. Second listen and I enjoy this album so much more. It has more depth. That other speaker was playing the lower frequencies more prominently removing certain pieces of the musicality. While the headphones let me hear every nook and cranny clearly. Love this album. Great album.

Favorite track is Everybody Wants A Prize For Feeling.

Interesting comparison. AMSP bored me to tears and this swept me off of my feet on the first listens.

Just curious, how much post hardcore have you heard?

Almost none. I've heard a few Fugazi songs, but I don't remember them sounding anything like this. But I wasn't saying that this sonically sounds like AMSP. I might have left this out of my review of it, but I listened to AMSP twice before I formed an opinion on it. This I might have to give the same treatment to.

I caught the comparison.

It's an interesting and diverse genre well worth exploring.
