I am going to to take a moment to talk about my new album. Stuck Between The Parallels of Man & Monster.
When I started the project I set four guidelines for myself and let's see if I actually met them. The first one was that all songs must be 3 minutes or longer. All tracks were over the three minute mark. No less than ten tracks. I had 11 tracks, so we're good. Cohesive flow between songs I missed the mark on this. All the songs after Sugar & Cocaine didn't really have that great of flow. Should've spent some more time on that. Each song must have one major quality about it that sets it apart from the other songs. I was afraid I was going to screw this up. I kept reusing the same scale, which could've thrown me into a loop of redundancy within the music. Luckily I started to force myself to branch out more when this occurred to me. The first thing I wrote after the realization was what ended up being my favorite song on the album, Sorrow Filled Masturbation. To quote a friend of mine upon hearing it, "it's trippy." So all and all, I'm happy with this release. The music is strong and holds up on its own. |

Today'ss review is Tepeu's Q'uq'umatz. An album by the esteemable Mondo Bungle. (Atmospheric Black Metal, Progressive Metal, Avant-Garde, Post-Metal)
Spoiler for Big album cover:
Creation: Album begins with a build. There comes in with a flute I think. Sounds like a guitar, in the background. I actually really enjoy this track. Only the Sky Existed: And we move into the next track with heavily distorted guitar. It sounds like we have some jungle music happening in the background. And some heavy guitar comes in. Wow! This is really good. I love that transition. It's still growing strong. What is happening? I have no idea, but it's just awesome. Ik Kil Cenote: Track starts with bit of an upbeat happy feel. Yet it also has bit of a downtrodden feel due to whatever is happening in the background. Xpiacoc and Xmucane: Again, I am unsure what is happening, but I love it. Love this drum work here at the 2:30 mark. I really enjoy what I'm assuming is your guitar work. 6:30 mark. I love this so much right here. This might be my favorite track thus far. 10:30 This is awesome! I like the way you ended it. Bloodletting Ceremony: What is that you're beating on? What is going on? Why is this so awesome? It's over? I want more though! Tepeu: Ok. Onto the twenty-five minute track. We have an easy soft flute playing. And a synth(?) playing now. Some really great guitar has come in. This track is what I would call progressive. The synth is gone, and I have no idea whats happening again. It's pretty awesome though. 2:45 I love this guitar! The blasting drums are awesome. Is someone growling in the background? Wow this is good! I just noticed how long this song is. I know that prog is famous for the it's longer songs, but this seems excessive. That's not in anyway a bad thing nor is it a good thing. It is what it is. But... I don't know. Song is still sounding epic. I can't understand a word of these vocals but they do what they need to and sound good doing it. This really is a great track. Really well done. Final thoughts: This album is really well done. It's everything it claims to be and more. I love this album. Favorite track: Hard to say. Each track was unique and quite fun in its own right. The album for those that wish to give it a listen. |

Today's review is The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die's Whenever, If Ever (Midwest Emo, Post-Rock)
blank #9: Seems it's building to something. And soft melodic guitar comes in quickly followed by what I think is a cello. Heartbeat in the Brain: Some guitar building and a beat comes in. Really dug these tracks so far. This vocalist has some weird **** happening here. He sounds like pre-pubescent little boy. Fightboat: Track starts with a horn. Nice build. Needs a better vocalist. Picture of a Tree That Doesn't Look Okay: Like this guitar. Sweet deep bass happening in the background. The vocalist is a lot better here. More tolerable. I really like how the track built into something more fast paced. You Will Never Go to Space: Really digging this track. The Layers of Skin We Drag Around: This track doesn't really build. It gets straight to business. Well, it pauses and gives us a brief build. It's a short track. Ultimate Steve: Nice easy guitar slowly building. This could be my favorite track. The chorus of boys singing is kind of welcomed idea. Gives the song a unique feel. Some really cool drum work happening. And it ends the track. Gig Life: To transition it into this track. And it is a acoustic track. And we have the pre-pubescent singing again. Low Light Assembly: Not sure what happened in that intro. But we have some piano in the intro of the song. This could easily be a contender for a favorite track. Getting Sodas: Nice easy guitar. Unique track. Wraps up the album nicely. Final thoughts: This album was better then Sunny Day or Mineral but not as good as Cursive. Favorite track. Ultimate Steve. |
