No shame in coloring in the lines. I like the clear tones on guitar solos.

MM3
Album by Metá Metá

mixing samba and Afro-Brazilian candomblé with jazz and rock. Now they have added north African influences, inspired by visits to Morocco
This is an album that totally hits the spot at times and then misses so tragically you wonder if they have any ability to discriminate. If anybody remembers the old Alternative Tentacles band Tragic Mulatto this is sort of like a less energetic Brazilian version of that. When that energy is focused on discipline the results are rewarding. I figure sometimes band members just got to tell one another when what they’re doing sounds cliche or corny or just isn’t working. To be frank, it’s usually the sax. The lines, some of them at least, just don’t work. Still, overall it’s a winner. I’m sure a lot of Banters would approve.

I guess Strychnine.213 would be the best example of what I'm talking about. They tried throwing in Pantera influences while still staying death metal and while it worked often enough they were clearly trying for crossover appeal and stumbling a bit. But when it did work it was nice and a bit unique even.

And I forgot just how good a line "Superior, or inferior, no matter you're all just cattle," is when delivered by a guy who manages bring a bit of swagger to death metal vocals. Strychnine is more fun than I remembered even if the production is kinda lightweight.

Afaict their best record is Engineering the Dead.

No silly bull**** melodic interludes

I’m not planning on scouring every second of their discography however

The Wilderness
Studio album by Explosions in the Sky

Explosions in the Sky are one of the most influential bands of all time and the most important guitar band of the 21st century. For the past 19 years if you weren’t playing metal or there’s a 90% chance you doing Explosions in the Sky imitations. They’re the most copied band since Black Sabbath. I saw them at Bonnaroo play a glorious set that ended just in time to watch the Dallas Mavericks beat LeBron James and the Miami Heat in one of the greatest NBA Finals ever. The whole scene was so perfectly blissful for me. Slowly working through a joint and drinking whiskey from a cleaned out contact lens solution bottle. And it was only a 20 ft walk to nice chill spot to watch the game with sound on a TV mounted outside. Perfect weather. Perfect buzz. Perfect best friend. You can’t put a price on memories like that. I’m lucky af to have many.

If you’re thinking of offing yourself while you’re young just remember really ****ing cool things happen to old folks too.

I promise.
