Butthole Surfers Electric Larryland Some guy came in and was talking to us about how he used to go see Letterman live. I asked him what his favorite musical act was. He said Renaissance. I asked him what his least favorite was. He said "some awful band called, and I quote, The Butthole Surfers". I immediately put this on after he left. |
He didn't like them because he's an ultra religious man who likes Renaissance.

Stick to what you know and throw on some Weezer.

Twas pointed at the Weezer fan talking down on an artist in a genre that they don't enjoy much in the first place.

If you like Weezer, I'll gladly make fun of you for that if you like.

Or their insane cover of American Woman. On a serious note, Independent Worm Saloon is an incredible album and one of my favorite albums from the 90's. |

Courtney Barnett Tell Me How You Really Feel Never gave this a listen yet. Might as well play it here since we're now considered a cool place by the local hipsters. |

Seriously just play this for an hour and laugh at the results. |
I had my phone on shuffle and "Yonkers" by Tyler the Creator came on and a bunch of old white ladies walked in and I forgot it was on because I was busy and I hear them say to each other" what kind of music is this? It's so raunchy".
I found it funny they used the term raunchy. |
I still remember the time my mother unironically used the term "smut" and one day I intend to mock her for it but she's crazy yo.
|
Who was Raunch and where can we find their jokes?

Van Morrison Astral Weeks We're very hard pressed for records right now. Been slow as far as buying goes. I've always had a soft spot for Van Morrison. The first pressing of this record is so damn expensive for some reason. $40. |

Mahavishnu Orchestra Birds of Fire Haven't heard this is a long while. I always find their albums either incredible or underwhelming. Don't really remember where this one falls. |

Talking Heads Talking Heads: 77 The lack of interesting records in this shop is getting to me. Staple records are fine but I get bored with albums I've heard over and over again. Talking Heads however usually bypasses that because I love them so. This is a 2009 Rhino reissue. They sound good. |
I love the records that are mentioned in your thread here EXO :)

La Femme Psycho Tropical Berlin I showed my boss this record a few weeks ago and he immediately bought the record for the shop only and we've been listening to it non stop. |

Beastie Boys Hello Nasty It's Friday night and we share a parking lot with a very good Italian restaurant. We have a lot of senior citizens come in and browse while they wait for their table. I'm trying to get them into hip hop. Still waiting for one of them to start bobbing their head. |
Try some L'Orange. Maybe the old timey jazz samples will rope em in.

How to buy vinyl |
Quote:
I don't really buy CDs anymore and most of the L'Orange albums I love are expensive as f*ck. |
You can't buy just the one CD? It'll break your hipster cred?
|

Yeah but nobody's doing that and you're not a trend setter.

always keep a copy in my van lol. |
I only buy CD's not vinyl. So I guess that makes me a massive hipster.
|
I still can't bring myself to believe that analog sound and bigger artwork are enough to explain people under the age of 40 who legit collect vinyl. I'd buy a vinyl copy of an album I ****ed over and had bombass artwork just to say I had it but other than that it seems frivolous.

What is it about the collecting? The aesthetic of the giant cover? The aesthetic of the giant vinyl? Both? I mean I get how collecting stuff can be irrational but still make sense to the person in question even if they can't put it into words. I mean I have a giant collection, hundreds of gigs, of digital comics on an external hard drive. Most of it I'll likely never read, but I don't care cause I just like having it. Not even just because it gives me the option to read them if I want, but it's oddly soothing to have a comprehensive library of things you think are cool. And this does not interfere with my buying of actual comics, nor does my physical collection cause me to delete digital comics since they're two separate collections and it doesn't matter if I have duplicates. To delete my digital copies would be to leave holes that would feel wrong.
