Question Searching for a song for 40 years now

Hi,
about 40 years ago I heard a very depressive instrumental song on a tape recorder of my friend. He could not help to find out what it was, but many years later he found the tape and gave it to me. It was VERY depressive and I could not get it out of my mind for days. After many years again and many moves I tried to find it again, but the tape was lost.

At the age of internet I started to search it again, but I only had one clue, the lyrics of the song before it helped me find it. The song before the searched song was: Joni Mitchell - Woodstock, played by Matthews Southern Comfort.

I tried to find each and every album where this song was played on, to check the next song, but no luck.

I recorded it on the guitar, at least the beginning. Unfortunately Shazam or similar services do not recognize it:

Do you have any ideas?

I checked compilations on discogs containing Woodstock covered by MSC. That song ends up on quite a few. A lot of the following songs didn't use acoustic guitar or fit the description. This is the closes I could find.

Various - Summer Breeze Vol. 1
San Francisco by Scott McKenzie

Parts of it reminds me of "Hotel California" by the Eagles

Have you tried the b side of the single? A track called Scion by Matthews Southern Comfort. No idea what it sounds like as I couldn’t find it but if it followed on your tape it’s possible it could be that track. Frustratingly, searching for that track brings up the album of the same name that doesn’t contain that track.

I gave it a shot. I doubt this would be it, it sounds vaguely like what you posted. Is the one you're looking for merely acoustic, or does it have other instruments? Does it start out with acoustic guitar, just like what you played?

Thank you Stephen, I've been down this track myself, with the same result...

Yes, the very beginning is similar but it is not the same. Thank you for the shot though.
