Need help finding an old favorite, long forgotten song

The song contains the lyrics "dinner with your family and the jokes really hurt, cried the way home, you were putting me first."
The song is by a lesser known female artist. It is upbeat pop-like but slows down to acoustic guitar and the artists voice is pretty heavily auto tuned/ played in harmony with itself and might entail something about flowers in a field, flowers, the color blue. I'm not sure though.
The plot of the song, (a type of love story) roughly follows this path: The artists meets her lover in (college?) During the summer of some year in the early 2000s, late '90s(maybe) and goes on to describe her feelings about this person(male) and thier interactions. Partway through the song the aforementioned lyrics pop up. I don't remember anything else from the plot of the song.
If ot helps, this song appeared on the radio station 100.9/100.7 (i101), which is local too the Douglas county, Oregon area, during the summer of 2021
