If you cruise around the net a little I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion that there are apparently a lot of people who share your sentiment. In fact, I'd say those people have become just a tad tiresome with their constant nagging...you don't like them, we get it, move on...

OT: I've given it a few listens and the preliminary evaluation is as follows; not as good (or rather as immediate) as their previous albums. There aren't really any spectacular singles such as Clocks, Speed of Sound, The hardest part or Fix you, but there are some really good songs on it nonetheless. The intro, although in the leak it's rather bad quality (not sure if it's intentional), is instrumental but shows some spectacular pop-potential. Had they decided to make it into a proper song it would have been one of the best I'm sure...

There aren't really any songs I'd want to skip, but I'm a fanboy so I can't be objective. The standouts for now are Viva la vida, Strawberry swing and Death and all his friends. It seems they're moving towards pop more and more, which I'm actually quite happy about...:)

Someone asked if they were the only person who thought Coldplay were boring. I guess the higher powers thought that highly original comment wasn't worth saving...;)

Not at all, i do that with all the releases i'm really looking forward to.

I'll give this album a go at some point, i was very disappointed with X&Y but there's enough hype for this for me to be interested.

adidasss 06-12-2008 04:11 PM

I'm wondering if this slick person who voted awful actually listened to the album or they just don't like Coldplay much. Because I'm not sure how an unbiased person could vote "awful"...really...

Sometimes I really want to punch people when they're being assholes over the internet ...serenity now....http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/astral2.gif

Billabong01 06-12-2008 08:51 PM

pretty good album, I voted excellent.

Piss Me Off 06-13-2008 06:05 AM

There was a lot of hype for all the Coldplay albums before they were released.

must be a uk thing :\

adidasss 06-13-2008 09:31 AM

Or an internet thing...;)

Rainard Jalen 06-13-2008 09:38 AM

I can't decide whether or not to actually listen to it. It's becoming a sort of neurosis. On the one hand I already have a sort of conviction that there's little chance of me liking it, but who knows, I might be surprised.

Ditto, then there's the conviction that if I actually do like it I'll have no excuse for being a ***.

sweet_nothing 06-18-2008 02:37 AM

I think this album is really great and imo their best

adidasss 06-18-2008 06:08 AM

Well you're wrong.

sweet_nothing 06-18-2008 06:48 AM

okay?

Yeah there's massive hype pretty much everywhere you go, there's no escaping knowing that Coldplay have a new album out over here. Biggest current band in the world, no? Far as I'm led to understand from airplay/sales stats.

Whatsitoosit 06-19-2008 11:48 AM

I downloaded the two hit singles from iTunes... good enough for now.

NSW 06-24-2008 12:24 PM

In general, Coldplay is just an OK band for me. I'm not denying they are talented and good at what they do, I just can't really get into their music, though I do hear a song by them every once in a while that I really like. For instance, I really loved "Trouble", but despise "Yellow". Honestly, I haven't really checked them out since "Parachutes". Having said that, I tried to keep an open mind when listening to the four tracks they have on Last.fm from this album. So far, so good. I like the "poppiness" of it. It seems more upbeat and peppy than their previous work, but again, I can only base that on the few times I've checked them out in the past. I think I'll end up getting this album sooner or later.

spark10036 06-29-2008 07:18 AM

just listened to the album and I found it very good...

also just seen the Violet Hill video with the politicians on youtube....amazing!!!!!!

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 02:03 PM

It's better than X&Y anyway.

adidasss 06-29-2008 02:57 PM

No it ain't.

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 03:00 PM

X&Y isn't even catchy.

adidasss 06-29-2008 03:38 PM

Yeah it is.

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 03:47 PM

This argument is funny. Speed Of Sound is possibly the blandest, most boring song I've ever heard. Fix You and Talk are halfway decent though.

adidasss 06-29-2008 03:52 PM

Well, you're wrong.

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 03:55 PM

It not only sounds the exact same as Clocks, but it sounds like Chris Martin forgot to write in the catchy chorus which the bands one redeeming trait.

adidasss 06-29-2008 04:00 PM

 Seriously though:

The sheer strength of numbers is on my side here, they sold 10 million copies of that album largely based on that and the other two singles. That's about as catchy as you're gonna get. Plus, you forgot The hardest part which is one of their catchiest singles...yupyup.

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 04:03 PM

Stadium arcadium is pretty musically, ah, flacid, so to speak, and look how well it did.

adidasss 06-29-2008 04:17 PM

I'm thinking they already had a massive fan base ready to eat up anything. Coldplay didn't really have that with X&Y...Plus, Dani California is a fantastic tune, you gotta give it that....:\

ProggyMan 06-29-2008 04:28 PM

Yeh, I guess the singles were alright. Dani California is by far the best on the album. I think Coldplay had a fairly large fanbase before X&Y, and their was more than enough hype surrounding their lead single to send Speed Of Sound to number 1. I think Viva La Vida really got them back on track and they really moved forward with their sound. Which sadly, I'm not a fan of.

True I think X&Y is their worst.

Whaccha chattin' bout bruv! Coldplay were insanely huge before X&Y came out! Rush Of Blood To The Head has to the present date sold more worldwide than X&Y (by more than 2 million) and has bettered the performance of X&Y by going 4xPlatinum in the US and 8x in the UK, while the latter has 3 years since its release also done 8x in the UK but only 3x in the US. Parachutes had even sold like 8 million worldwide by 2005. You could probably argue that they were the biggest band in the whole world well before X&Y even came out.

If y'all wanna get ultra depressing, Nickelback's All The Right Reasons LP sold more than 10 million worldwide. Sigh.

Yeah, I did a little research after that and found out the same. For some reason I thought X&Y was by far their best selling album...my bad...:|

Davey Moore 07-02-2008 12:19 PM

I know I haven't been here in a while, I sorta "fell off" the internet as of recently. Anyway, I'm listening to this album and I am so pleased, so happy and greatly anticipate the future of this band. Each decade there is a pop band that absolutely defines the decade(off the top of my head, I'm thinking of The Beatles in the 60's and Oasis in the 90s) and I'm sure that the 2000's are the Coldplay decade.

This album is a great step forward for them. I believe this is the band's "Rubber Soul", where they take a giant leap forward and go into a more interesting area. Bravo.

spark10036 07-02-2008 03:54 PM

I ve been listening to this album for a week now and I find it very good and easy listening
the title track is great btw...everything is so much better when u just dont give a damn...

RickyyD 07-10-2008 09:05 PM

I voted Very Good.
I enjoy listening to Coldplay.
This is one of their best albums yet.

dac 10-13-2008 11:14 PM

i can't stand coldplay after a rush of blood to the head, the last two albums just seem like mainstream crap
