This is like perfect pitch part 2 but I'm not complaining. For me the highlights being My Girls and Bluish. It's hardly an instant classic nor does it blow all their other stuff away but it's really good.

This album is out?

January 20th

whoa that cover art kicks ass. it moves and its a jpeg. trippy
I've listened to about half the album and it's pretty good.. although I think with every album they're taking a step back. Everything was pretty original up until Feels, then it just started to sound like they were improvising on what other bands artists have already done.
To me, this sounds like what Person Pitch should have been. I love it.
Fantastic album, I really love it. My Girls is probably the best track here, maybe In The Flowers.

I gave this its first listen tonight, was suitably impressed! I think (like all AC releases), it'll gradually grow on me to the point where i LOVE it.
neat cover too like. |
been listening to it a lot. time well spent. voted excellent.
It's a grower definitely, i've given it about 5 listens now and i'm still not sure on calling it excellent but there's some beautiful moments on it as well as some great poppy elements so i'll go very good.
I just got it on vinyl. Im voting excellent based solely on the fact that AC albums take a couple weeks to grow on me, and I already like this more than I did their other stuff on the first listen.
As an outsider to the Animal Collective fanbase I'd like to remark that this record didn't seem that spectacular. Admittedly I never liked Strawberry Jam but this just seemed to reinforce my original thoughts about the band.
Is there something I'm not getting? |
absolutely excellent record, this band are incredible.
Their progression is fascinating and excellent, although I like their early noisier music just as much as the stuff they're releasing now. There's no band like them just now, one of the most interesting acts around for me. The fact they've caught on with such a large audience is brilliant as well. |
I've just listened to this for the first time and the first impressions are fantastic. I can't remember the last time an album gave me goosebumps on the first listen. Also frightened almost made me cry. The only down side is that I've heard a lot of it live so it all sounds a lot less epic on the computer/earphones (especially My girls which sort of crushes you with its booming drum bass live). I need to invest in a better sound system. And I definitely need to hear all this high and have multiple eargasms.
I vote excellent. Possibly album of the year. |
Sounds like another album to get. Feels is probably my favorite, but Strawberry Jam also got heavily played.
Flippin' hell Bluish really sneaks up on you!
Each day I have a new favorite song. That's a mark of a great album. It's certainly their most immediate and most accessible. I'm not sure how that'll pan out in the long run but for now I can't get enough of it. Even when I'm not listening to it it spins in a continual loop in my head. Insanely catchy stuff...The only song that does nothing for me is Taste. In the flowers has to be one of the best opening songs ever.

So I've spinned the album a few more times, and it's definitely getting better with every listen. Summertime Clothes, and Brothersport are great songs, and the didgeridoo (?) in Lion In A Coma is just brilliant.
Just finishing In the Flowers right now, and let me just say WOW. I can't wait to hear the rest of this album.
The bowl I just sparked up is probably helping as well. ;-) |
Yes, they've become my favourite band to get HIGH! while I'm listening, since seeing them live.

Oh, finally got to a better sound system. If anything was ever meant to be payed very very loudly, this is it. The subwoofer makes all the difference. I'm in love with this album.
I think this album is great! I agree with Brad, 'Taste' is a great track and probably my favorite also. This album is like a combination of Person Pitch and Strawberry Jam, both of which i liked. The direction they've went in is great but this should be their most pop release. To extremely pop with their music and it could take away some of their creativity.

I can confirm gravityslips' statement, it is indeed eargasmic when you're high. I just wish I could crank up the sound at night...>.>

Nah, half the experience is in the subwoofer. Headphones can't replicate that....
true. however i dont have the means to get a nice setup so its headphones for the immediate future for me.
I don't have anything special, it's just a pair of speakers for the comp and a subwoofer, I don't think it cost more than 50 bucks. But I'm pretty happy with the sound. (:
I have been giving this a listen and I must say that I am impressed. Very good album indeed. This is the first album I have heard from Animal Collective.
my favorites of theirs are this and strawberry jam.
Scares me |
I have to say, I think that video is dreadful. However the song is rather brilliant so that's fine.
Anyway, I have no idea what my favourite song on this album is. They're all awesome! |
I think it's kinda cool. Could've been better given the general spectral awesomeness of the song...
****ing delicious.
I thought the video was great, the best part is the end with the dripping effect. I enjoyed seeing the way they perform, what machines they use etc. I can't wait to see them at Bonnaroo!
