Gave this a spin last night and it was pretty much what I wanted to hear from the description Anteater gave. It wasn't quite as haunting as To Lay Like Old Ashes by Austere (a similar sounding band), but it didn't have the very annoying screaming that completely ruined the atmosphere created by the rest of the instruments. I think I need to give it one or two more whirls to say whether or not it deserves a higher rating, but for right now I am completely happy with what I rated it at.

I'm on the second track at the moment. It's brilliant so far, I'm pretty sure I'll end up rating this higher than Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde when all is said and done. Kind of nice to hear the return of those black metal vocals. I was a little apprehensive about him using the harsh screaming again, but I'm relieved to hear that he makes use of it in a tasteful way.

At least they aren't the cheesy throaty gargles you usually hear with black metal, that alone is what puts me off listening to more in the first place. So far it's been rather entertaining, some of the softer passages remind me of Galaxie 500.

Have you guys not heard Souvenirs d'un autre monde?

If not, you need to.

I haven't heard the new one yet but let's just say I'm extremely fucking excited.

EDIT: That was a presumptuous question and I hate presumptousness above all so I apologize. Still, I'm excited as hell about this album and hopefully will vote soon.

Of course I've heard Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde. One of the best albums of 2007.

(and this is looking to be one of the best albums of 2010)

...that's an excellent vote by the way.

Yea - that's why I apologized - I asked a dumb question and the answer was only 2 posts back And I've seen that album mentioned a lot on MB so I feel bad for assuming the other commenters here don't know it.

Anyway, I've heard the new album once - some of it bored me but when the 'black metal vocals' kicked in my vote instantly climbed up a notch. I'm going to listen some more before submitting a real vote but I definitely like it. And now I wanna hear the guy's actual metal so more power to him.

It'll definitely grow on you as you become more familiar with it.

Definitely in the top 3 for releases of 2010 so far(Meshuggah - Alive and In Mourning - Monolith). 2 listens in and it was alot better than second time, hopefully the same will happen for the third listen.

I voted very good. I don't think it's as good as Souvenirs, but it's still a fine record in its own right. The black metal vocals are well done which was a relief.
