I'd hate to play middle man but... While I don't think it's on par as MMLP I certainly don't think it's bad or selloutish. It's a lot more commercial than Relapse, that's for sure - but it's also a far better record.

Also, have you guys noticed the maturing in his voice?

I don't think it's really a "maturing" in his voice it's just that he decided not to play up the characters that he created. He didn't do anything slim shady related on Recovery.

I loved Relapse because Slim Shady was going super crazy on that one and his voice was jumping all over the place. I almost reminded me of Infinite in some ways.

Dude, there's no way you're convincing me that this song

Quote:
When I just a little baby boy,
my momma used to tell me these crazy things
She used to tell me my daddy was an evil man,
she used to tell me he hated me
But then I got a little bit older
and I realized, she was the crazy one
But there was nothin I could do or say to try to change it
cause that's just the way she was

They said I can't rap about bein broke no more
They say I can't rap about coke no more
(AHHH!) Slut, you think I won't choke no whore
til the vocal cords don't work in her throat no more?!
(AHHH!) These mother****ers are thinkin I'm playin
Thinkin I'm sayin the **** cause I'm thinkin it just to be sayin it
(AHHH!) Put your hands down bitch, I ain't gon' shoot you
I'ma pull +YOU+ to this bullet, and put it through you
(AHHH!) Shut up slut, you're causin too much chaos
Just bend over and take it slut, okay Ma?
"Oh, now he's raping his own mother, abusing a whore,
snorting coke, and we gave him the Rolling Stone cover?"
You god damn right BITCH, and now it's too late
I'm triple platinum and tragedies happen in two states
I invented violence, you vile venomous volatile bitches
vain Vicadin, vrinnn Vrinnn, VRINNN! {*chainsaw revs up*
Texas Chainsaw, left his brains all
danglin from his neck, while his head barely hangs on
Blood, guts, guns, cuts
Knives, lives, wives, nuns, sluts

Chorus

Bitch I'ma kill you! You don't wanna **** with me
Girls leave - you ain't nuttin but a slut to me
Bitch I'ma kill you! You ain't got the balls to beef
We ain't gon' never stop beefin I don't squash the beef
You better kill me! I'ma be another rapper dead
for poppin off at the mouth with **** I shouldn'ta said
But when they kill me - I'm bringin the world with me
Bitches too! You ain't nuttin but a girl to me
.. I said you don't, wanna **** with Shady (cause why?)
Cause Shady, will ****in kill you (ah-haha)
I said you don't, wanna **** with Shady (why?)
Cause Shady, will ****in kill you..
came from "practically the same album" as this song

Quote:
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road

(Intro)

Yeah, It's been a ride...
I guess I had to go to that place to get to this one
Now some of you might still be in that place
If you're trying to get out, just follow me
I'll get you there

(Verse 1)

You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em
But you won't take this thing out these words before I say 'em
Cause ain't no way I'm let you stop me from causing mayhem
When I say 'em or do something I do it, I don't give a damn
What you think, I'm doing this for me, so **** the world
Feed it beans, it's gassed up, if a thing's stopping me
I'mma be what I set out to be, without a doubt undoubtedly
And all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony
No if ands or buts don't try to ask him why or how can he
From Infinite down to the last Relapse album he's still ****'n
Whether he's on salary, paid hourly
Until he bows out or he ****'s his bowels out of him
Whichever comes first, for better or worse
He's married to the game, like a **** you for christmas
His gift is a curse, forget the earth he's got the urge
To pull his **** from the dirt and **** the universe

yeah, I will show you the two proper songs to compare to each other off of those two albums.

the ones you picked don't even mirror each other

I'm not afraid compares with Stan

NOT the two songs you picked there.

I'm going to bed so I will do a complete run down of the two songs that compare with each other later

But that's the point- you can't find anything to compare with "Kill You" or "Criminal" or "The Real Slim Shady" or even the skits like "PSA 2000".

Really? The song with the chorus that goes

Quote:
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
compares with Stan, the song about a guy who commits suicide and kills his wife/unborn child at the same time?

I think Stan compares much more to 25 to Life. It's hard not to notice similarities. The foreboding hook, the acoustic guitar beat at the beginning, Eminem talking about his relationship with his music, as Stan writes about his relationship with Eminem's music, and the giant plot twist at the end that makes you think...

Not Afraid? I can see how it might compare in terms of popularity, as you said, but the two songs arn't that like each other...

Relapse is probably his worst release, quickly followed by Encore.

Recovery is definitely a step in the right direction.

I've always like Eminem.. I find people are always going to look for a way to talk bad about someone who's hit such success, and on the other side of the coin, it's very tough to live up to what he's done before... I think all of his albums have been excellent.. They combine analogies, with some disses, and comedy... He shows such diversity in his rhymes that is very un-common, and I dig it.

This album regardless of his older stuff, is pretty solid. I am in the popular opinion where his older stuff is better, because well...that's just it, it is. But...hearing this album was a nice refreshing change from when he released Relapse. Don't get me wrong, that album was fine and all, but it really wasn't the "Eminem sound" I was wanting to hear. I read up on some of the lyrics, and they were great, but I just couldn't get used to the style he was using for his "vocal accent" or whatever you call it. He didn't sound like himself in that album. So hearing this, and hearing all his "purity" made it worthwile.
