I don't really care how different this album is from the previous ones or not. All I care about is whether I like the songs on it. For me, the only song I liked enough to actually want in my collection was Codex. The rest aren't bad or anything. They just don't do anything for me.

I'm not blaming Radiohead for it. Their albums have had ups and downs with me, and it's to be expected. But I do have to remark that this is the first time I've only cared about 1 song on one of their albums. After (comparatively) "enough" listens, it's the only one I remember and actually want to hear more.

I'm ok with that.

So far I'm kind of with you on this, except I also like Lotus Flower. I'm only on my 4th listen right now though. And actually I'm really enjoying the beginning of "Little by Little" as I type, so more songs may start to stand out in time.

But yeah overall it's a pleasant album with nothing that's blowing me away or turning me off. Still better than HTTT which I never got into. I should try again one of these days.

Anyway, I hate to really judge albums so soon. Even if I'd played it 10 times already. It takes time, not just listens, for an album to sink in.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I might get around to listening to this eventually.

From what I have read so far in this thread it's exactly what I didn't want them to make so I'm in no great hurry.

I'm bored of minimalist electronica Radiohead come Thom Yorke solo project. The sooner the rest of the band discover they actually have some balls the better.

I'm not asking them to go back to The Bend's type rock, just do something INTERESTING.

I swear to God I hope this isn't another lame attempt at them wishing they were on Warp records.

I understand, but I can't completely relate.
It's almost like when people explain how they can tolerate the taste of diet soda. They usually say "if you drink it long enough, you begin to like it", which to me, translates to: "If you repress your own preferences enough, you begin to enjoy things you wouldn't ordinarily enjoy." The problem I have with that is the concept relies on the person changing, rather than the thing being consumed getting any better. While I'm completely open to the fact that we all change; right now, at this moment, I'm grounded in my sense of self and that sense says this album will only get any better if I change my personal standards about what means what to me, which is really not something I can force, and still feel like a genuine person.

I'm OK with placing first impressions a few pegs higher than gradual acceptance. I feel better about judging something based on what I already know, rather than what I may eventually accept.

So I've listened to it a countless number of times now. I still would like to listen to it more, and I know that I'll have a different outlook if I listen to it even more, or if I come back to listen to it heavily at another time, but as of right now, I'm saying only PH is worse. Not a shot at it in any way though. I think that Radiohead is just that good. Excellent album and yet again there are no weak spots on it, but I was expecting a bit more. Favourite tracks on it are the last 3.

This is the first Radiohead album I've been unsatisfied with. I still think it's a great album, I've listened through it probably six or seven times but each time I just wanted more. Although I kind of doubt it will happen, I hope they do release another part. I guess I can't complain since their last five albums are some of my favorite albums ever, I was just expecting more. Anyways, my favorites so far are probably Bloom, Codex and Give Up The Ghost.

I see what you mean, but I don't think that can apply to music. If I don't like a certain song there is no amount of times in the world that you can play it to get me to like it. In fact, I'll probably like it less. With growers like Radiohead, listening to it multiple times helps you notice little subtleties that you wouldn't notice with just one listen.

Granted, there has to be something the piques your interest on the first go around. Why would you bother figuring out the subtleties of an album that you didn't feel some connection to?

Edit:

Thought I would actually give my opinion on the new album. It's good, but Radiohead have officially passed their peak. I suspected it with In Rainbows, but now I'm sure. They've got the Radiohead weirdness-but-it-sounds-original formula down pat. Ok Computer (and even the Bends to a certain extent) all the way to Hail to the Thief really were groundbreaking in my opinion, but it had to end sometime.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the album a lot. There is a more ambient edge to it compared to their other stuff. I just think their "Where the **** did they come up with this???" days are over.

OH MY GOD THIS ALBUM IS GREAT SO FAR. I've always loved Radiohead, but never a die-hard fan like a lot of people on here are. But I swear, with every album they make I like them more.

By the way, Codex's lyrics are beautiful.
