1. I have got to listen to this soon.
2. **** yea Mr Lehee. GREAT! Hopefully this album isnt a ****storm. |
^Unfortunately it's mastered like one. Hopefully a good vinyl ripper does this soon.
It could be my favorite thing from White & co, though I've never been a huge fan. It seems like a continuation of what he did with The Raconteurs. It's more consistently good than any other album I've heard from him. I only skipped one track (Weep) on my second listen. The piano in Trash Tongue Talker is sick. |
God I hope so. Love Interrupted sounds incomplete. For that one, i thought it was White Stripes 2.0
|
I haven't given it a proper listen yet, but first impression is great.
It's certainly richer, broader palette of sounds than white stripes. Doesn't ever touch that feel good simplicity of icky thump, I'm not going to lie, i was hoping for a song like "conquest" to rock my socks off too but I'm not disappointed. |
Only heard sixteen saltines and love interruption. Love interruption is great, not so sure about sixteen saltines yet. I'm waiting for the album to hit stores.
|
I gave it a 4. There is some good variety of instrument and music style in there. So far I'm loving it.
|
Yep, I'm liking this. I've been wanting him to do solo stuff for some time now, even when The White Stripes were still together, so hearing Jack White with no restrictions and the full extent of his creative vision is a moment to treasure. My favourite song off the album at the moment is 'I’m Shakin' which rocks like a bitch.
Also Carla Azar from Autolux on drums scores the album extra awesome points. |
Does anyone know if it's in stores yet?
|
Maybe in England and points Eastward.
|
I've listened to a few tracks off of it so far. But yeah, I'm loving "I
m Shakin". Lulz. He's noyvous. |
I'm not bitter... just making an observation.
|
It's a little early to say because I just got it today, but I'll give it a 3 so far. It's pretty good but its not really blowing me away.
Now that I've listened some more I'm willing to bump my rating up to a 3.5 or 4 maybe. I'll give the first half of the album a 4 for sure, it's really solid. The second half is a little weaker with only a few songs that I really like. |
more good than bad songs
and a few excellent ones 4/5 for me i wish he did more rootsy stuff like his songs on the "Hope (or is it White?) Mountain" soundtrack |
You guys should check out the Colbert segment he did. It was pretty funny and the song he played was quite different from the album version.
|
got a link?
|
|
That was damn good. Do you know which song that is? I'm listing to the album for the first time now.
|
I think it was I'm Shakin' but I'm not positive.
|
Anyone got a link for this album. I'll buy my own copy eventually, but i'm too lazy. Plus, i'm curious to hear how this sounds.
|
I've only listened to it a couple of times, but I like it! Some of the songs are really good, but some others are 'okay'. I think it will need some more listens to sink in, though.
My favourite song so far is 'Freedom to 21'. Love the drums. |

@Ki please just thank me via PM next time.

I like that he's working with new arrangements, but nothing as adventurous as GBMS. I hope he continues with this, because I love him as a writer. I gave it a 3 (but really a 3.5)

I don't know. Elephant is like a....4.25?

I agree, I was wanting some more rootsy stuff but i think he was wanting to stray away from that and make a more original album. It's less guitar oriented than his work with the white stripes, more keyboards, better drumming, more layered sound. |
I have to go 5/5. There is SO MUCH diversity, and you can really feel Jack's emotion on this album. I don't love every song, but it does flow nicely. I don't think I dislike any song on it yet either.
After the first week of listening to it quite a bit, my 3 favorites are: I'm Shakin' Trash Tongue Talker Sixteen Saltines My favorite thing about Jack is that he does ANYTHING he wants on a record. This is a great solo "debut". |
Listened to it a few times since I got it, not to shabby. I def like it a lot, just not sure if I love it. I'm shakin is a good tune, but when I first heard it kind of reminded me of the Year Without a Santa Clause song...vaguely of course, and didn't really irritate me at all just kind of a wisp of a smile is all.
4/5 stars from me. |
I gave this a 4.Had this on pre-order for a while,it arrived release date.I was initially really impressed but the more I listened there were no great surprises in it,still a great album and JW is a important musician but was hoping for it to richen with further listens.
|
I still wish The White Stripes were around but Jack White's debut is great. Love the instrumentation. He's matured as a musician and this album shows it.

I think I had originally given it a 3. I change that to a 4 or 4.5. It's a great album.

I have to say it wasn't all that great the first time i heard it as a lot of the songs sounded the same but as i listened more they grew on me but it does miss something without meg but i'm shakin' was a quirky alternative and he is maturing as an artist
|
I really enjoyed this album and think it is a step up from the White Stripes
|
it's good
|
