Yellow started off nicely... There were some really exciting moments that made me feel like I was in for more. Alas, as Zero said it just meandered with decent riff work to flat out boring, but nothing memorable. So yeah, first half of yellow = great. The rest = forgettable.

Aside from a few lyrical gripes, I think this is a pretty fantastic album. I'm only going to give it 4 stars though, because I don't think I'd rate it quite as highly as Blue. That album is damn near flawless in my eyes.

I don't get where people are having such a problem with this. Listened through the whole discography today, and I have to say, it gets gradiently better in my mind, not worse. "Atmospheric" qualities in sludge metal seems contradictory to me since it directly rejects the main influence of sludge metal, crust punk, and substitutes "arty" attempts that frankly seem silly to me. I might just be coming in with different expectations or something, but I prefer Blue and this most recent double album since they amount to good if sometimes ballad-y metal albums instead of a failed artsy attempt. Just my two cents.

Sludge metal is absolutely a venue for creating atmosphere, moreso than many other forms of metal. It's usually a very thick, dense sound, with a lot of doom influence. This latest record isn't very sludgy at all though, and even Red and Blue were much less sludgy than their early EPs.
