I didn't have too high hopes for this but a first listen was a pleasant surprise. Not every song was a hit for me, but a couple of the songs were great. Especially Pyramids was a surprising track, I saw it was nearly 10 minutes logn and thought "how the hell is an R&B artist gonna make such a long song interesting and keep it that way?" but he did a good job on that. I dunno if it's a 3/5 or a 4/5 for me yet, gotta give it another go to know for sure.

i will always love Nostalgia, ULTRA which i already treated as his first album but i really think channel orange is better
this album was obviously more personal so i think he put more into it in the long run

( the bonus track kinda ruined the mood though i don't think tyler fit on the album at all, have to admit also earl's part was disappointing too)

For the people who like this album a lot: What does it make you think of? What images does it evoke for you? What kind of feelings do you associate with this album?

I'm not a fan personally, but I'm very curious what others see in it.

Honestly I am not impressed. The album is just too spread out and I have no idea what was he trying to do with it. The album has its moments but considering you fall asleep during the filler time, you barely notice them if you're not REALLY paying attention. That's another problem, the album just does not take me and hold me until the end. It's more background music than anything.

I enjoyed this release. Frank's really matured, and is sounding great.
I don't think it'll be long until he completely breaks off from Odd Future, he doesn't need them anymore.

His voice obviously is the albums main selling point, but there is some really great accompanying production, namely on the albums highlight: Pyramids.
The album displays it's best material from that moment on with the second half of the record being the much stronger, with songs like Forest Gump and Bad Religion really displaying the emotional maturity of Frank Ocean.

Not to say that the first half of the album was bad, it's not, it just felt as if it didn't really serve much purpose, there were some nice melodies but the album as a whole was possibly 3/4 tracks longer than it needed to be.

Overall, better than Nostalgia_ULTRA and a good effort, firmly cementing Frank as the number 2 cool r'n'b guy after The Weeknd.

Can someone please answer these questions? I promise I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm really just curious.

Though I certainly don't miss the pointless interludes of Nostalgia Ultra, this felt like it just wasn't as well-done as the mixtape. Sure, the peaks here are much higher than the peaks there, but this album substitutes for the directionless, sporadic occasional failures of that release its own singular vision that sometimes approaches the dull and repetitive. A lot of the commentary that this album supposedly makes is lost on me, or maybe I'm just not that surprised when I hear about class confrontations in such an elementary way as "Super Rich Kids." Highlights surely include "Thinkin Bout You," "Sierra Leone," "Pyramids," and "Pink Matter," but there's nothing here that comes close to even making me understand the appeal, much less feel it.

3/5

Can I ask if bots/n00bs are able to vote on here? Because lots of these threads get bumped and I notice that the vote always seems to be 5/5.

Upon further reflection after a few more listens, I think it's definitely worth a 5.
It's a grower, and it's so damn infectious.

I give it a 2/5, i was hoping more for some classic r&b and it just sounded like he was trying to be tooooo creative
