Okay I'm gonna give my feedback on this album which is wayyyy overdue because numerous people have recommended it to me.

My first feeling is boredom. I feel like I'm listening to a slow-motion hybrid JT/Kid CuDi mashup of some kind. But I'm gonna give this album a chance, so I'm listening to the whole thing!!

*a few minutes later*

There's also something very Jamiroquai about this dude. I like the jazzy parts, but I'm still longing for the whole thing to be more upbeat. If it gets more upbeat I'm gonna go nuts. Sweet Life is kinda doing it for me. *jams*

In direst response to Janszoon, I'm visualizing a casual shopping day at a vintage thrift store. I mean, if I owned a boutique, this is the kind of music that would be playing in the background of my store. It's important to relax people while they are shopping, because shopping is stressful and it sucks. Frank Ocean is making me feel like shopping. Like I literally cannot resist the urge to peruse the racks right now. WHOA.

I love it when people say "ape**** crazy." Yeah it seems like Sweet Life may end up being my favorite track on this album. I don't like Super Rich Kids. I JUST WANT IT TO BE MORE EXCITING.

What else... I like the opening of "Lost." That song is SEXY, man. Was it a single? It rocks. Hard. *downloads*

Okay, overall I give this album a solid 3/5. It's artistry deserves praise, and his pure voice and untamed vocals are so nice. But it is just toooooo boring for any more stars from me, unfortunately. I love "Lost" -- and that's about it.

Nice description! Thanks for being the one person to respond to that question.

No prob, homie. I try to read the entire thread and respond to at least one person before posting.

So you didn't like anything about this album, I take it?

I thought "Pyramids" was okay, though it's way too long. Other than that I didn't like anything on the album. Like you, I just found it incredibly boring.

I actually caught about half an hour of Frank Ocean at T in the Park last month while I was waiting on someone else coming on the stage. I'd never heard if him but found it to be an incredibly boring performance overall and his music was bland as ****. The whole thing was just terrible.

Frank Ocean is a very talented songwriter but I wasnt really impressed with this album. I do like Thinking About You and Bad Religion though.

Aw I liked it.
I couldn't tell you anything about any of the tracks besides Forrest Gump, they all kind of blend together like mashed potatoes. Not that I would ever eat mashed potatoes.
I like his weird lyrics.

Think Frank Ocean is better as a guest appearance..hes bit like the new generation version of Nate Dogg...brilliant at hooks but give him a solo album and it falls a bit flat

I don't see anything wrong with his songwriting, I think that's probably one of the strongest aspects of the album is how sturdy the songs are written, being rooted in both classic forms (from Wonder and Marvin) to more modern types ("Pyramids"). It's practically essential urban music listening, it's got everything great from all the various genres in that category. Unless Soul isn't technically urban, but then you just throw that in too.

Great album, coming from a guy whoose taste mainly revolves around the rock-genre!
