Tame Impala's new album. Rate and discuss it.

Gucci Little Piggy 10-10-2012 12:40 PM

OK I'm having this one repeat, it's just too awesome. It's liek a more psychedelic version of The Beatles with a bit rockier sound to it as well. I don't even like The Beatles that much but this, oh my god I love this. 5/5, AotY material.

Their sound though, I'm in love with their sound.

Loving this track especially.

duga 10-10-2012 03:16 PM

I just posted about this in Albums You Are Digging, so I'll just go ahead and emphasize what I said there...

This album is AMAZING. It takes real talent to be able to progress musically while retaining what people fell in love with in the first place...and they NAILED it.

Album of the year for me as well.

duga 10-10-2012 05:01 PM

Sorry if the merge screwed up the poll...everyone can just revote 5/5.

Gucci Little Piggy 10-11-2012 12:17 AM

Someone rated this 4/5? BLASPHEMY!

Either this or The Money Store is AotY for me right now. I'm gonna have a tough time choosing...

Aaron1 10-11-2012 04:05 AM

4/5 for me. Another good album from an excellent band.

Goofle 10-11-2012 07:52 AM

Maybe I need to listen to it a few more times, but I am feeling a 7/10 at the moment. Decent album though. (voted 4/5 as I feel it will only grow on me)

HE nailed it, its a one man project.

I started a thread on this in the Album Review area.

Thom Yorke 10-11-2012 06:20 PM

Yeah, this has to be the album of the year for me right now. It wasn't even a grower for me really; pretty instant connection to it.

Best tracks are Mind Mischief, Nothing...Control, Elephant.

Goofle 10-11-2012 06:24 PM

I must be missing something.

I guess so. Maybe you're not that into music that grabs one from the very beginning, I dunno. =3

Goofle 10-12-2012 02:12 AM

It's good like I said, I just can't see where people are coming from giving it perfect scores and AOTY shouts.

PoorOldPo 10-12-2012 06:04 AM

I am giving it album of the year because I haven't heard something like this well...Ever.

Goofle 10-12-2012 06:21 AM

It sounds like many psychedelic records man. It sounds like their previous album too.

PoorOldPo 10-12-2012 12:19 PM

If they had intended for this album to sound like something from the 60's and 70's then they failed horribly. Kevin came up with something far more fascinating in my opinion. By using the technology available to him in the contemporary world, Kevin has tapped into the progressive and experimental spirit of psychedelic rock, and not just the sound.

debaserr 10-12-2012 09:19 PM

I'm with goofle, this is a solid album. It's just nothing that special. I probably have 10 or so albums I like more than this from 2012.

Engine 10-12-2012 10:35 PM

No bullshit, it's really not very good compared to any 60s/70s stuff or any current music. Boring pretty quickly but not bad. I give it a three. Perfectly average.

duga 10-19-2012 11:57 AM

I think it's one of the better albums I've heard in a long long time. I've been so used to an album having on average 2-3 really great songs that I still get surprised when one of those songs on Lonerism ends and the next one is just as good.

Out of curiosity...what are you guys thinking of when you say there is better stuff going on these days?

Never said that, but it does things that the stuff from the old days couldn't do. This is coming from a fanatic of 60's music from the psych era.

I love 60's psych as well and still think these guys have officially move past an homage and are now making something all their own.

So...top 5 psych albums? I'm sure there's a thread for it, but since this is a psych album and we are on the subject...I'm curious.

All those albums are great...the new Yeasayer needs a few more listens to sink in for me. Field Music is good but it's different. The new Grimes is superb in the first half but then trails off while Lonerism is solid the whole way through. Miike Snow is catchy but not nearly as fulfilling.

PoorOldPo 10-23-2012 12:02 PM

I like Apocalypse Dreams might be the best song they have ever done. Same goes to Sun's Coming Up. And I am including all the music they did before their first album as well, which was also great.

thought that album was a bit messy. Some tracks were great but overall, I prefer their previous album.

PoorOldPo 12-02-2012 11:58 AM

On first listen I wasn't too gone on it either, but it has far surpassed the first album for me now, which is strange because the first album defined 2010 for me, it really had an impact on me.

I think there is just much more going on in Lonerism. It took a couple listens to really click for me. Innerspeaker was definitely more immediate.

wiggums 12-23-2012 01:35 PM

My favorite album of the year, by far. Can't stop listening. Every song has the potential to be addictive.

PoorOldPo 12-23-2012 03:16 PM

Exactly, Lonerism really stuck with me. I love it.

Quite the opposite for me. Lonerism was way more immediate. Innerspeaker really dragged so I never got into it. Lonerism wasn't THAT great either, but it peaked my interest way more than their debut

PoorOldPo 12-25-2012 03:37 PM

The song Nothing Ever Happened.... Is really starting to grow on me. I wasn't terribly gone on it before. Its strange, a lot of the songs that I was not gone on the first time I listened to the album, are in many cases now my favourite.

All I'm saying is Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control =/= Nothing Ever Happened

Phantom Limb 01-22-2013 08:51 PM

Just recently found a working download for this. IT TOOK ME FOREVER! But I'm super glad I finally found it because this album is fucking good. 5/5 or sure.

joy_circumcision 01-23-2013 01:24 AM

another insufferably stupid album from an insufferably stupid band

Forward To Death 01-23-2013 02:52 AM

Took me multiple trips to local record stores/best buys to find it, but it was worth it.

I love this album. It's proggy, psychedelic pop with Beatle melodies. I'd give it a 4.5/5, but since that wasn't an option I just went with 5.
