felt very much like a Crosses record, in that it was a lot less nu-metal driven and clunky than the production in previous records.
On first listen, I liked it. They've really grown as artists and Chino sounds incredible on vocals as always. Worthy of the hype I'd say. |
I voted 3/5.
I dunno, maybe I should give it more time, but I feel like it's a collection of songs from the album that was supposed to come out that they cancelled. Nothing really stood out to me and grabbed me in the way that new Deftones albums usually do. There were some good songs, but as an album, I wouldn't rate this very high at all. And this is coming from a Deftones fan from the outset. I don't really feel anything with this album. I'll give it more time, but I know how I react to them and I know how I digest them. I can already say that this is probably going to be my least favorite album of them that they've ever put out. |
To me It's not very dynamic but there are a couple of songs I'll go back to when I want some Deftones stuff...it's enough for me to give it a 3/5.

Best album from them in some time

I don't know guys, "Romantic Dreams" and "Poltergeist" are pretty epic to me. I like the rest and feel it's as strong if not stronger than Diamond Eyes. It seems more like a step forward at least in those two tracks. Some of the tracks seem pretty standard for Deftones but it's all good material. I think it's a solid 4/5.

It didn't make it to the NME's top 50 of 2012. I don't believe there are fifty better albums this year but anyway..

Actually, on seconds thoughts this comment is quite amusing. Humour me even more so, what did NME's 'list' look like? How high were The Cribs lol? |

I voted 3/5 but 3 seems a bit too low, and 4 seems a bit too high. I'd rate it 3.5 to be honest, it's great but nothing spectacular.
I still haven't given Diamond Eyes a listen so this is the first Deftones album I've listened to since Saturday Night Wrist. SNW had it's good moments but felt inconsistent, Koi No Yokan feels more consistent overall and seems like a progression from SNW. I'm not going to go comparing it to White Pony as that would be pointless. |

Or do I just not come here often? Quote:

Yeah, man... how's it going? You were one of the first people here I chatted with and gave me a good impression of the site then you disappeared! |
Suffice it to say, we miss your ass.
|
Good to see you guys too! I guess I just had to simplify my life a bit, take out some distractions from work. And last week I was very distracted so I wound up here. I don't plan to fully get back in the swing of things for the same reason I disappeared, but I'll stop in once in here and there.

Lost track of them after the first two albums and this one is not bringing me back.
|
For me this album is like: first half is 5/5 and second half is about 3/5, so I gave 4/5 :D
