I like self-titles better for debut albums, but being that this band hadn't put out anything new for over two decades I don't really mind this. As uncreative as it is, I guess it reminds people this is the band that made Loveless, and maybe gains some new listeners as well. The album cover's a bit plain too, but I like it. Gives contrast to the other albums if you place them next to each other. But I could care less about those things when the music is brilliant.

You could care less?...As in, you do actually care about those things in some way? Even though the music is brilliant.

I worded that weird. Sorry. I mean I don't care about those things as much as long as the music is good... :/

You probably knew what I meant anyways.

Yo!

(click the images to make them bigger)

Received today. The larger CD package was sent to me (for free) because of an ordering error so now I have the vinyl+CD, and the CD. No record label. No plastic covering. No creative album title. No bullshit.

You can't clearly see what the images are because of my crappy phone cam. But the things on the left of the open jacket are brick buildings (the whole thing is some kind of panoramic cityscape shot, maybe) and the blurry image overlaying that is, I think, the band members or some other people. There are more images in the CD insert as well.

It's a solid record, but I'm gonna have to listen a few more times to give my final verdict. It's gonna be good though.

I disagree, it didn't do Black Rebel Motorcycle Club any harm when they called their debut B.R.M.C.

It was enjoyable, but I haven't heard 'Loveless' yet, so I don't have any sort of comparison to it.

Haven't heard much Shoegaze either, so I'm really not the best critic.

Well, I know it was mentioned a few times in the thread already, but there is no way in hell "M B V" could have topped "Loveless" in the eyes of the public. The fact that the latter was put on a diamond pedestal and praised by every music publication ever as one of the best albums of the 90's is exactly why it got the reactions it did. I personally loved the new album (I'm really, really digging 'Who Sees You'), and I'm a bit stunned people are lukewarm towards it. By far and large, it was an amazing birthday present from MBV to me. It's a bit of a shame really, as I'm pretty sure Kevin tried to ignore the hype, hence releasing it out of the blue.

It just goes to show though, anything that's hyped up for a decade or two is bound to not live up to said hype.
