FETCHER. 05-14-2013 05:21 AM

Patiently waiting on my wages going into the bank so I can buy it. The anticipation is killing me!!

You heard anymore of it yet?

djchameleon 05-14-2013 06:29 AM

It's out now, streaming on iTunes and there are leaks floating around.

Justthefacts 05-14-2013 07:24 AM

The anticipation is just way too much for me to handle. I might end up blowing my brains out.

I need to wait on my gypsy brother bringing my laptop home because he thinks he can just take it when he wants. ****ing arsehole. :(:(

sdorviadesko 05-14-2013 09:56 AM

nice funki and light work from this french band, different from the first oine but very ok

YorkeDaddy 05-14-2013 12:36 PM

Doesn't sound much like old DP, but still really, really excellent.

Key 05-14-2013 12:52 PM

Getting my hands on this pronto!

Cuthbert 05-14-2013 04:10 PM

Never bothered with them before, I've heard their obvious tracks that you wouldn't have to like them to have heard, so I thought I'd give this a chance.

Didn't like it. No harm in giving it another listen though I suppose.

PM me for a link if anyone needs it.

wiggums 05-15-2013 12:04 AM

My and my girlfriend's favorite thing to listen to all day. I don't really like the old Daft Punk sound, but this new funky stuff is awesome.

Random Access Memories Reviews - Metacritic

Ok, NOW I'm pretty fucking stoked.

Cuthbert 05-16-2013 10:07 AM

Listened again, this album is wank imo.

Daft Punk Can't Wait for You to Hate Their New Album - Connor Simpson - The Atlantic Wire

Apparently it is actually meant to be that way though.

^You're probably the only person here so far that I have seen who doesn't like the album.

You should take my opinion on it with a pinch of salt as I don't listen to this sort of music. I've never listened to a Daft Punk album before.

I figured with all the fuss surrounding this, it'd be worth a listen.

I want your washing machine.

The single was rubbish, but I have yet to listen to the album. Probably won't any time soon.

The only album that legitimately blows by Daft Punk is Human After All, but Homework and Discovery is, famously quoted by James Murphy, what transfers the rock kids to electro. Those records are classics.

debaserr 05-16-2013 02:55 PM

I know at least one thing.

RAM > Human After All

James Murphy is a 24-carrot douche in fairness, though.

Buy a Chic album

He can't help it, he's an aging hipster.

You have a sexy ass washing machine and I want it.

I was so so about it after the first listen but it really grew on me.

LOL
On a more serious note, “Random Access Memories” reminds me more of cocktail party music than EDM.
This in a way kind of makes sense since the robots are at this stage of their lives wealthy, sophisticated middle aged men and RAM surely reflects that.
I can see how this album would be appreciated by some of their longtime fans…I mean all people who used to party ‘till the break of down listening to Homework back in ’97 (16 years ago!) are probably living very different lives now.
To those people probably a mellow album like RAM could better represent their current lifestyle and mindset.
However if you’re looking for a vigorous and innovative dance /electronica album, you will be disappointed.

ladyislingering 05-17-2013 08:56 PM

I am astounded by this new album. I totally lost my mind when I found out that Daft Punk were signed to Columbia AND they got to collaborate with Giorgio Moroder. Giorgio goddamn Moroder. I love vintage disco. I love the kind of funky stuff you'd see on Soul Train. It's been a long time since the business has seen or heard this type of thing, and Daft Punk have successfully resuscitated Euro disco. It's electronic, but it's ... organic. It's not 100% computerized nothingness.

I was really skeptical at first because I couldn't understand why Daft Punk would be releasing a new album; I thought "what could they possibly do that they haven't done before?" but I'm very pleased with this album. I think it'll be part of our record collection someday soon.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-17-2013 10:34 PM

I'm buying this next week. It's a must have even if it doesn't trump their other work. I'm getting the feeling there's mixed reviews about it.

On metacritic, just two. Out of 17

That's not good, surely its not as bad as homework?

Key 05-18-2013 12:06 AM

I guess I just don't really understand a lot of the bad reviews. Maybe i'm just being a little defensive, but I definitely find this to be worthy of the hype that it received.

More critics are going to rate it the day it comes out, and It's already starting to look like it's pretty much going to be critically acclaimed.

I'm wondering if its going to be acclaimed because they are so highly looked upon for their older work? I have noticed an insane amount of hype, people have made Get Lucky the most streamed song on Spotify.

But no matter what everyone says I'm going to approach the album subjectively and make a realistic submission on what I think.

Possibly, cause Human After All sounded nothing like their previous albums and it got shit on by the majority of people. RAM seems to be leaning to their older material, so people love it. It's a shame they can't really experiment too much without people hating it.

But I must admit, they do have an amazing trademark sound they're really known for.

Justthefacts 05-18-2013 01:31 PM

Giogio by Moroder, Holy shit. THE most epic track Daft Punk has ever released.

I cannot believe how much this album is just melting my mind with it's funky, disco bliss.

wiggums 05-18-2013 03:28 PM

I like to imagine that in the song "Touch", that Daft Punk was just working on their music in the basement. They had the basic song set up, but didn't know how they wanted to do the lyrics. As they are thinking, one of their dads opens the door from upstairs and shouts down: "Hey guys, I just pulled the steaks off the grill. Dinner is gonna be ready in 10 minutes, ok?".

As soon as he says this they both look at each other and yell up at him to come down. They ask him to sing the lyrics to the song and he immediately agrees. He stands in front of the mic, and picks up a piece of paper with the lyrics on it. They start the track and he starts going and does it in one take. As the song ends, he pulls the headphones off and asks: "Was that good?" and they both nod in amazement. He nods in approval and walks back upstairs.

It is really hilarious to me, and I don't know why. His voice is just so awesome like that. My girlfriend told me this scenario when we were listening a couple days ago and I havent been able to forget it.

They certainly do and that is what people love. I am so annoyed that I have to wait till Wednesday to listen to it!

They will probably struggle to move away from their roots without people getting upset though.

Circe 05-20-2013 09:49 AM

It's a modern pop album that hasn't been brickwalled to the other side of the world, which instantly gives it good ratings from me. I liked it quite a lot, with Giorgio being worth the wait alone. Doin' It Right was pretty standout as well, even if it was basically just an Animal Collective song.

Thinkofthechildren 05-20-2013 01:30 PM

What an album. Also I had quite a big surprise seeing Julian and Panda Bear were on the album. I am definitely not big on their old catchy electro stuff, just not my thing, but this is completely up my alley.
