Lady Gaga - ARTPOP

Lady Gaga's album has leaked. So I've managed to listen to it quite a few times and I love it! Is anyone else going to listen to it?

Tracklist:

Aura
Venus
G.U.Y.
Sexxx Dreams
Jewels N' Drugs
MANiCURE
Do What U Want
Artpop
Swine
Donatella
Fashion!
Mary Jane Holland
Dope
Gypsy
Applause

misspoptart 11-08-2013 06:27 AM

I can't seem to get it anywhere, and I guess it's because I don't have iTunes. I will say I love Applause. SO MUCH. Not sure about the rest yet, but I'm not really into Dope or Do What U Want. I'll give you a full review later for sure. :)

djchameleon 11-08-2013 07:21 AM

Explain yourself!

Why don't you like Do What U Want? Best track on the album overall!

The only reason I like Dope is because of getting to hear her vocals clearly and it shows other people how talented of a singer she is.

Two Spirit 11-10-2013 04:36 PM

I'll be listening to it tonight when I buy it on iTunes.

Two Spirit 11-12-2013 11:13 PM

I'm having a hard time getting into it. It just feels very bland and mediocre for an album that she's been hyping for two years.

SomethingRoyal 11-16-2013 10:49 PM

Do what u want, ARTPOP, and Applause are AMAZING!

Two Spirit 11-20-2013 07:16 PM

The album is starting to grow on me. The biggest, though, is that this would be a great album if it was released by any other pop star. Gaga holds herself to a higher standard, so judging by that, it's hard to appreciate this as a work of art.

Scarlett O'Hara 11-20-2013 08:01 PM

Yip I agree. I think as much as I enjoy the chorus of Venus, the rest of it is embarrassing and is trying too hard to be like David Bowie.

misspoptart 11-30-2013 12:51 PM

I finally got it on Spotify, and all I can say is I love MANiCURE.

theGravity 12-12-2013 05:22 AM

Applause & Do what you want is great !

BenIPAQ 12-18-2013 01:34 PM

I think Applause is the best song on the album. But, overall I am not as thrilled on this new album as on the first one...

Graeme O'Neil 12-19-2013 06:56 PM

It's a solid album. "Jewels n Drugs" is godawful as is "Mary Jane Holland", but everything else is great, even though it takes a couple listens to get into.

"Gypsy" is freakin awesome. That's single #3 and could be the saviour of the album for sales.

Two Spirit 12-25-2013 09:40 PM

She keeps hyping the crap out of Do What U Want, but it's not catching on.

She really needs to save this album with a strong third single, but there doesn't seem to be much single worthy content here. Perhaps Gypsy or Dope, even though I hate the latter.

djchameleon 12-26-2013 06:01 AM

She has Dontella, Dope, Gypsy, Jewel N' Drugs. Those are all single worthy. I don't think this album needs saving though.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-03-2014 01:22 AM

Dontella is ****ing awesome. A top track for me. I wonder what Dontella thought about it? Not many artists can pull that off with a fashion editor.

Donatella will never be released as a single, and for good reason. The entire song is so cringeworthy, from the bitchy opening to lines like "you just had a salad today." The public won't eat it up at all.

Jewels N' Drugs is a hit or miss. I like Gaga's parts, but the rap verses are weak. Plus the song doesn't have a very strong structure. It doesn't need it, but the general public probably won't like it because of that.

Two Spirit 01-29-2014 09:57 PM

I'm really digging "Gypsy" right now.

Lobster159 02-24-2014 02:15 AM

What does ARTPOP even mean!?

msk8cooper 02-28-2014 09:39 AM

The entire album is so strong and powerful. I love it very much. Gypsy is a personal favorite. :)

According to Gaga, it could mean anything.

I like this definition I have come across in the past.

Quote:

Artpop is pop music whose main aspiration isn’t commercial success but that, ideally, attains that goal anyway.
Talking Heads’ frontman David Byrne was once asked whether he makes art or product. I feel I’m successful, he replied, “when people forget the distinction between the two.”
Unfortunately, a yawning gap lies between that concept, which former rock critic/current sociomusicologist Simon Frith has called “an art-music niche,” and Gaga’s distinctly less utopian notion:
“Some of us are ‘artists’ in this group called ‘celebrity’,” Gaga tweeted, “and what we create doesn’t live on unless there’s an audience to remember it. So I may need your attention at first, so I can sing you my song. But it’s the ‘Applause’ after that lets me know if I’ve entertained you.”
Hell, as she repeatedly notifies us on a recent single, she lives for the applause-plause. Does that really sound like someone with a Byrne-like attachment to the first half of her album’s portmanteau?

DirtyScopeBeatz 03-09-2014 05:13 AM

Is that song with her and R.Kelly on this album?... If so I don't even want to hear it. I think she is a wonderful artist but that song is annoying.

It's not that bad of a song. I can think of worse songs on the allbum, such as Dope or Donatella.

I want what you are having, Donatella is one of the best songs on that album along with Artpop, MJH and Fashion1.

Jewels n' Drugs and Dope are... somewhat a tragedy.

Rjinn 03-14-2014 03:21 AM

Gave this a listen the other day. I got the impression it's more of a club album than just pop. I know there's not much difference there. But it was definitely a blast from the past in late tween years to early 20s going out to night clubs almost every night.

Otherwise yeah, nothing much to say about it but the first track is pretty cool.

Same.

Album sounds more Dubstep/Brostep influenced than I expected also. Lots of wobbles.

I like it btw.

Rihanna has dipped into that as well:

I heard "Applause" on the radio the other day and a thought occurred to me that I could possibly pull off playing guitar in place of her voice over this tune. I did a search for a 'karaoke' version of it, and found one where the vocals are stripped. So, now I'm learning it, matching her vocal inflections, and it's actually sounding really good. Good enough to enter into a "March Madness - Anything Goes" competition on one of the guitar forums I frequent.

Wish me luck!

Good luck and don't forget to hire a vomit painter to puke up on you.

Here it is. I know Vanilla will be able to pick out the rough parts, but I just wanted the Lady Gaga aficionados to have a listen and let me know what they think before I submit it.

You did a really good job with that. I dropped it in plug so others could hear it. :tramp:

Thanks Deej. I appreciate that you spread the luv too. A few more minor tweaks and I think I'm done with it.

Cuthbert 03-19-2014 05:02 PM

This album is hard. Yes fanboy.

Plankton 03-19-2014 08:05 PM

Better mix on this ****, and a bump.

SoloSong 04-14-2014 11:44 AM

Applause is the best one from this album! My applause to GAGA

PhantomMartyr 04-21-2014 02:24 AM

I voted 1/5. Personally, I feel this album should get a -47/5, but I can't go lower than 1. This album was absolutely pure garbage. One of the worst albums I've ever had the displeasure of listening too. It's a shame, too, because The Fame and The Fame Monster were both Pop masterpieces, and Born This Way was enjoyable, as well.

you took the words right out of mouth. i think it's time she closed the curtains and turned the page on ARTPOP. It's too try hard-ish to me. I dunno. maybe it's me alone.

No, me too. I hate Artpop. I think the downhill trend started with Born This Way, but even that was a good album. The Fame and The Fame Monster, on the other hand, were outright Pop masterpieces.
