It was a pleasant surprise to see a decent album from Pearl Jam.

Meh. They've done better in recent years. This one felt like that big deal comeback album though, trying to retain their old fanbase by trying their original sound out again. Backspacer, The Avacado Album, and Riot Acts were much more varied and artistically developed imo.

You make a good point. I was merely stating they put out a decent record. Nothing special just something good to listen to. Though Mind Your Manners is a little different compared to anything off of Backspacer.

It's definitely not a bad record, just a little underwhelming, and in my opinion streamlined, compared to their previous works.

Mind Your Manners was probably the best thing on modern rock radio at the time too. I'd know because I (regretfully) listened to it quite often.
