Thumbs up Modest Mouse: Lampshades On Fire

The new song from Modest Mouse has just come out for their new album "Strangers To Ourselves." The single is called "Lampshades On Fire" and it is great. The song as a very Danny Elfman Score style to it. The song has classic guitar effects from songs like "Dramamine" and "Cowboy Dan." Lampshades on Fire is a sign that Modest Mouse is going back to their roots and making something amazing!

I predict it's gonna be something like Good News. I sure hope it's more like their older stuff.

I loved Good News. It was my favorite album by them for a long time until I gave a more in depth listen to their older stuff. It has a certain charm to it that I'm sad to see go away

Old stuff was more laid back and original. New stuff is amazing, but the old stuff set the bar so high for me. Feels like they've invested too much in an "indie" sound and disco influences.

But hey, more good music in the world is nothing to complain about.

I think that's pretty typical of most bands though. Just look at Metallica, U2, RHCP, Soundgarden.

If you make it far enough without imploding, most bands settle on a sound they like. MM is no different. In my experience, the music they make when their young, hormonal, and starving can't be reproduced and we should thank them for not trying.

Play what you like, and people will buy it. Try being something you're not and people can smell a fraud.

I liked the single. Although I didn't know it was actually an old song when I first heard it. Still, if this is the course hey are taking for the new album, I'll even forgive them for canceling the whole EU tour.

Personally, I think it's a pretty good song. I listened to it again after everyone gave it a "blah" rating. I'm not sure whats wrong with it. It might not have "holy ****" immediacy but a lot of good songs don't.

I'd rather this than something that fades immediately.

New song/video!

Feels a lot different than most of their work but I actually really like this. This bumps my hope for this album. Aww yeah.
