Honestly, this is an incredible solid release and it's made finally choosing my album of the year extremely difficult. A strong release that I'll happily give a 4.5/5 and maybe even a 5/5.

DeadChannel 12-26-2016 01:15 PM

I specifically returned from my leave of absence to hype this record. Absolute 5/5, maybe best RTJ release although too early to tell.

Call Ticketron is probably my absolute favorite track on it. The beat is amazing and it never stops being good.

Who the **** rated 2/5

Machine 12-26-2016 05:47 PM

2.5/5 Always thought this group was overhyped, but I really enjoyed their music before this. Uh this one, yeah not so much. I just thought it was really really boring, nothing stood out to me besides Call.

Idk man, this album just was not my thing.

What did you rate RTJ2 at? I think this one is more dynamic and less of a party album.

I'd give it about a 6/10, if anything I think the experimental party bangers work better for them. I don't think this is really bad, just boring.

DeadChannel 12-26-2016 06:35 PM

Too bad you're objectively wrong.

pretty much my thoughts. when it's on it's on and there are some tracks I will definitely keep coming back to (Legend Has It, Call Tickerton, Hey Kids, Panther Like a Panther), but this thing felt like it went on forever. I much much prefer RTJ2 and maybe even their first album to it

Absolutely. Strong contender for AOTY.

That's pretty much where I'm at. It ties with Travis Scott and The Weeknd for my AOTY.

Sorry Ki but these records you speak of, suck. RTJ3 is almost sorta underwhelming me, I need to dig further.

He's been told many times.

YorkeDaddy 12-27-2016 09:42 AM

Liked but didn't love on first listen. Will definitely be giving it several more tries though, and I expect it to grow on me

Neither of those albums were being discussed.

Not until you mentioned them, at least. Remember the context of this discussion? I think you already forgot.

Mentioned doesn't mean discussed.

The Batlord 12-27-2016 10:31 AM

Am I the only one who thinks of Super Metroid when they hear this song?

Travis Scott and The Weeknd suck.

Now it's a discussion. Don't worry, your butt will recover.

The hurt will heal, but the gape is permanent.

On listen #2 and to all those people who call this album boring: this **** is fun and hype as ****. I'm still a relative noob to RtJ so I can't really compare it to past albums, but as an album to throw on when you just want some dynamic (to quote Chris) hip hop this is ****ing sick.

I've heard their other ****, but only a few times each and I need more than that to form nuanced opinions. "Close Your Eyes" is already crack for me though.

You just keep saying ironic things lately. What's with you?

You mean I continue to make ironic jokes like I always have, right?

Yes.

After comparing old to new and listening to 3 a bit more I'd say this might be the definitive RTJ album. The performances are possibly even more energetic and I think this is the first time El-P's production is touching on the quality of his solo material (maybe).
