On my last forum somebody told another member that they hope their kid gets their skull cracked open in front of them out of the blue because they support Donald Trump.
This place isn't so bad. |
Trump-supporter haters are vile and exhibit the same intolerant behavior they profess to detest.

There is some seriously disturbing anti-Trump supporter rhetoric out there. Props to you for recognizing it. |
Trump supporters are vile, too, thinking he represents anything even close to wholesome traditional values.

That being said many of the right wingers in my hometown are average people. They're working class and not too bright sure, but they're generally normal and average people who want to lead a happy life, and many believe that Republican candidates truly want to protect "family values" and all that fake tosh. Is this because they're vile? No, it's because they're too thick to see the wider picture. They are, as I said, blissfully ignorant. |
Guys, let's try to keep it on topic here. It's okay if a thread in the lounge evolves into this, sorta, but let's try to keep the music forums music related.
Thanks. |
Got it.
A while back I said parts of the album sounded beautiful. Someone else said it was ugly and supposed to be ugly, all the way through. Just got back to listening to it this evening and I've got evidence to back my case up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYBxEQquAzM Jump to 12:38 That sound downright pretty. In a melancholy sort of way, but it is beautiful. And it sounds like Dir En Grey, but nobody want's to hear me smear this album so I'll shut up. |
Fair enough, sorry. I just don't like people trying to psychoanalyze me through a music forum.
Have you guys seen this? |

But on the wider internet, it definitely seems like people only accept a comparison if they don't hate the thing their favorite band is being compared to. But I hear all sorts of weird musical connections sometimes. |
I think people tend to forget how musically open a lot of artists are. They can be influenced by and be appreciative of a lot of artists outside their genre or medium. Most artists don't sneer and deride other bands like internet pseudo critics do.
|
I'd say that I aspire to evolve into a musical attitude like that of Ted Gioia or Rick Beato. No negative attitudes about any genres. Just being able to hear any music for what it is and be able to see the craftsmanship and artfulness, regardless of personal preferences.
|
Absolutely! I grew out of the "I like everything except for rap and country" phase a long time ago and I believe I have become wiser for it. I think that even the worst pieces of music have something to offer.
|
Now that's the kind of attitude I wish more people had about music
|
I will gladly take a steaming dump on "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and I don't care how much of an ******* I have to be.

I'm definitely not there yet, in terms of being more fair to all music.
But despite all of my ranting, my dirty secret is that I actually find most of the stuff I say I don't like to be listenable. I just find it difficult to find music that I can outright actively care a lot about. I'd say "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is a very well written song and an alright listen if I'm trying to keep my feet on the ground. But mostly I'll just have my arms crossed, a frown on my face and say that it's really boring because it doesn't set my pants on fire. |

I wonder what Daughters think of Trump.
|
I'll be he doesn't grab them.
|
"If they weren't called Daughters, I'd be listening to them."

Daughter
https://cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JP...0004007051.jpg https://www.allmusic.com/album/music...m-mw0003099266 It's almost the exact same band! |
oml I swear the first time I heard about Daughters the first thing I thought of was Daughter. They got some nice tones but they're a pretty milquetoast indie pop group with an average (but nice sounding) singer.
|
Hearing this for the first time tonight and sweet jesus was this fun. I feel like this is the soundtrack a robot would make for a cormac mccarthy novel. It's sounds like if art students actually had a vision.
And it feels even better that these guys are coming out of Providence. Go get 'em, Rhody. |
The only downside, for me, is that I don't find the singer's voice particularly singular or memorable - would give a lot to hear this seductive and immersive music screamed out by a Frank Black or a Don Van Vliet.
Still, great record, 5/5, credit where due. |
