Iv'e only heard two sludge bands to be fair. One was boring, the other was decent. My biggest gripe was ****er that I liked has a 30 minute album of two songs and I felt as though each song could have broken down into different segments therefor I don't have to dedicate 15 minutes to just one song or could just skip to my favorite parts.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Exactly. Even pretentious sludge metal like Neurosis is great...and I guess Isis too to a lesser extent.

Well come on then, what were they?

(also just want to note that this album is pretty removed from sludge despite some parallels)

Keeper was one and I forget the other because I deleted them off my computer. I think it was like coffin torture or something like that.

Edit: Yeah, Coffin Torture. They were boring to me.

Here you go. Get through this and then pass judgement on sludge. Get through this and pass judgement on all that 90s rock can be to be honest. Get through this and not fall down on your knees.

Could be perhaps the fact that both bands were also considered Doom metal. IDK.

Sludge is doom with hardcore punk.

Sludge is like doom sans most of the funeral wankery that permeates the latter. Some post-metal wankery exists in sludge, don't get me wrong, but I'll sure as hell take a Neurosis epic over an Esoteric one (not that Esoteric aren't good in their own right).

More on Floor for Lucem- Bat is showing you some pretty entry-level awesomeness with Melvins but I think Floor demonstrate pretty well the punkish aspect he was talking about before. They made a slew of singles throughout the 90's that were earth-shatteringly heavy for their time, and their debut material was similarly so. They made a habit of fusing clean vocals in with these crazily distorted guitar tones, which eventually earned them the title of "doom-pop". I like their album Dove, a collection of recordings from 1994 re-released in 2004, because they have a lot of vibes from their 90's singles while adding this air of stoner to it as well. They're a really unique band and they might pique your interest.

Of all the songs I listened to in what you guys posted, I actually like that Floor one the most.
