Mika is fun. His album is cutesy, sure, but it has good pop tunes and the sound and lyrics are a lot of fun.

It's not one of the great pop albums ever, but it's definitely worth listening to, in my opinion.

I could be violet skies.

i think it has a merit as pop record...grace kelly is an infectious track
although the album does lack a bit mid-way through
and according to my best friend and homo extraordinaire mika also has merit as a *** icon

So do Cindy Lauper and Cher, that doesn't speak much to the quality of the music.

FireInCairo 09-08-2008 07:07 AM

i was kidding....
and i said his album had merit as a pop release

Whatsitoosit 09-08-2008 05:51 PM

I enjoyed his album for about a month... then I lost interest and I rarely ever listen to it. I'm sure I'll have the urge to go back and listen as some more time goes by... but his music can be too over the top for my tastes to listen on a regular basis.

^^^pretty much the same here
i was really into it for a bout two weeks
and i havent listendd to it since
i gave it away

a lot of people would resemble Mika toward Freddy Mercury. just one difference, anyone help me out on this one?

Freddy Mercury can sing

kyleargyle 09-17-2008 08:54 AM

Amen. The Mika/Freddie comparisons are borderline sacrilegious.

Whatsitoosit 09-17-2008 09:12 AM

The same thing was said about Justin Hawkins... and my first reaction was "oh hell no!". There are moments (seconds) when MIKA kinda/almost sounds a little bit close to Freddie but that's only because he is trying so hard to do so.

Mika tries way too hard to get his voice up to the levels he does. nobody really can see it from sound but he really does stuggle to keep his voice up that high. i mean some songs (SOME) are good with his voice like "Relax, Take it Easy" (although i like the techno remix better) and maybe Big Girl, other songs just go down the hell hole.

i ****ing love mika. he's a lot more.... cabaret than the other stuff i listen to? but what a live performer. i saw him this past february at terminal 5 in new york city and it was just unlike anything else i've ever been to. like a musical acid trip. craaaaaziness!

Big_Al 10-10-2008 01:31 PM

This guy creeps me out in a major way. I don't know what it is, but frankly I don't think ANYONE should be this happy, EVER.

Whatsitoosit 10-17-2008 01:09 PM

Was listening to him yesterday... got to the 3rd song on the album and had to switch it up to a different artist.
It's like he wants every second of his album to be a hook and that can get just as tiresome as an album with very little hooks.

I like Mika. Would you say he is kind of neo-glam rock? Is it ok to think he's kind of cute?

LilKwonie 02-21-2009 06:08 PM

we love mika

I live in Sawyer Michigan a very little town. Mika is unexpectedly famous here and I absolutely love pretty much all the songs in his 2007 album including "Lolipop" lol. He is actually a great singer and an amazing piano player and really weird and playful during his performances too.
