My parents love Abba, which led to hearing a lot of their hits in the car on the way to school and the like. I love Take a Chance On Me, but otherwise I really don't have a lot of time for them
|
I like Abba...they're fun....pretty fun...they are not what I usually sit down and listen but every once in a while like to listen to them in my car. My parents used to love them, and I even stole a vinyl from my dad for my collection

My love for ABBA stems from my mother. When I was a kid it was ABBA, Boney-M and The Beatles 24/7.
I must admit that I'm a fan of Fernando, I Have A Dream and Dancing Queen. In general though I can't get enough of ABBA. |
Does anyone know if an ABBA compilation exists of all the tracks featured in the film Mamma Mia but performed by the group themselves and not the actors?
|
The Beatles and Abba are my two favorite bands.

I like them. I've heard all of ABBA's albums, and I think they were a rare example of a band that improved with each release, or at least did not go backwards.
Their first couple of albums are basically lightweight sing-along songs. By the time you get to ABBA - The Album, the production has improved light years, and they are tackling ambitious songs like "Eagle", "The Name of the Game" and the almost proggy "I'm a Marionette". Many people regard their final album, The Visitors, as their best, and while I have only heard it once or twice, I tentatively agree. As for whether they were purely a pop band or partly a rock band, I couldn't care less. However I do know that they considered themselves primarily a pop group. |

I liked the songs too of course, but, SuperTrouper under headphones for the first time was a real eye-opener. Or perhaps ear-opener. Benny, Bjorn and Tretow really knew their way around a console, thats for sure. |

Anyone been to the Abba "Mamma Mia" restaurant yet? |
I seriously respect their music and think that their years recording The Visitors and "The Day Before You Came" resulted in some seriously great songs which were perfectly downbeat while still having their on-target aim for classic hooks. I have been a listener ever since the first Greatest Hits album came to my attention as a kid and love the fact that Benny and Bjorn wrote some of the music for Joe Sarno's The Seduction of Igna before Abba turned into the chart-conquering group.

One of the first bands that I fell in love with with The Beatles
I love Andate Andate perhaps one of the few unknown songs. |
ABBA is one of the best pop acts ever imo.
I guess their music can be easily enyojed by different generations, which is what pop music is supposed to be about in the first place! |

one of my favs... why did Agnetha always seem to get less exposure vs. Frieda? She was the better singer out of the two.

Great group...

They're back!
ABBA Announce First Album in 40 Years, Share New Songs: Listen ABBA superfans must be jizzing themselves! I prefer Don't shut me down. It's really quite fascinating because they don't seem to have evolved one bit and that's exactly how it should be. :D |
Great song and music. Helps you relax and think about a lot of things. It's been a long time since I've had one of these.

discussion of ABBA. Does it really matter when they were pure pop, pop/rock, or something else? It's all music. |
ABBA's a good band but I think they were probably a little overhyped. That always tends to hurt a band's reputation regardless of how good they are.
|
HOLY ****. How did I miss this news?
https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...um-in-40-years Damn I really hope this album is good, because to me The Visitors was the perfect swan song of an album (and probably my favorite ABBA album) |

In the mid-1970s, after the initial worldwide success of "Waterloo", it began to look as if the group would be one-hit wonder, but then following extensive promotion of songs like "Mamma Mia" and "SOS" on local music show Countdown, they took off like a rocket here. I believe they still hold the record for the most number of sell-out shows at the Perth Entertainment Centre. Then in 1994, long after they had disbanded, interest was rekindled when their songs were used in not one but two Australian films of the 1990s: "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", and "Muriel's Wedding". The former ensured that ABBA remained darlings of the LGBT subculture. For ABBA, Australia was the gift that kept on giving. At this stage of the game, ABBA could put out an album of nursery rhyme covers and it would still probably top the charts here. |
just saw this on another forum I use for the over 50's... 2013, a charity performance... |

I can’t say that I am 100% Abba, but nevertheless I always enjoy hearing them. They are worthy of attention, at any time.
