I've noticed that Katy Perry's two most recent hit singles, "California Gurlz" and "Teenage Dream" both sound remarkably like Ke$ha. Their production style as well as lyrical content make me wonder if Perry is trying to emulate Ke$ha.

If this is the case, I would be very surprised. Katy Perry used to be on my list of acceptable pop artists. She had her own style and almost seemed rooted in a more 80's pop-rock mold. Ke$ha's brand of pseudo-rave pop might sell better than Perry's traditional music style, but it's also a lot less classy.

Also, do you think Perry is just doing this for the money, or do you think that she is actually interested in moving in a new direction for artistic reasons?

I think you are totally off. Katy Perry doesn't sound like Ke$ha. She is a million more times talented.

How do you figure this? Ke$ha is just a terrible voice masked with the heaviest autotune and effects I've ever heard. Katy Perry has an amazing voice. I don't see any similarities between the two.

"Tik Tok" and "California Gurlz" use the same exact chord progression (just transposed) and Perry's voice in the latter is very produced, totally autotuned and with the same syllabic pattern as that in Tik Tok.

Those songs don't really sound alike. Like I said, Katy Perry is a million more times more talented than Ke$ha. She has no need to try to copy Ke$ha. Katy Perry, Gaga, and Rhianna are the three female stars that are gonna be around a very long time in the music world. Ke$ha will eventually fall to the wayside, people will get bored with her songs because the great voice and talent is never going to be there like it is with the other 3.
