Now, about Amy Winehouse. Her public image is terrible. She does alot of drugs, is a general mess, and certainly isn't a role model to "young girls"... however, she IS a credible songwriter, having written her first album Frank, and most of Back to Black. And that woman can SING. I can only pick up autotune once on BtB.... And have heard her live, and it's insane.

I would listen to Amy over Hilary any day.
I am curious; how can you tell when they're using auto-tune? What effect does it leave that signals that for you?

Then don't post.

Btw,

Hi im Tommy
Im in a couple of bands
The JSBs - an electronica duo bent on classic pop and rock 'n' roll
Fire in Cairo - a post-punk extravaganza

I don't think this site really works for me, as I mainly listen to my music on CD and only really listen to works in process of either of the aforementioned bands.

Well, which would you choose? I'd pick Amy over Hilary any day. I don't think I needed to defend anything.

I went to school for audio engineering and editing, where we studied auto tune extensively.

You can pick up on auto tune on music (especially pop music, but in a lot of other genres as well) when their voice picks up an electronic robot sound. The pitch changes slightly as well (to accomodate for the actually pitch shift..) Alot of artists use auto tune as an effect, and will drench their vocals in it. Mostly in an R&B dance club track. (Chris Brown comes into mind.) It's something that alot of people can't pick up on, but if you study it, it comes out immediatly.

What's that got to do with anything?
Are you seriously trying to say she is musically important?
