Corn doesn't grow in Tampa, my dear. Can't I dress up as a banana instead?

I should have known there'd be a Lady Gaga thread on this forum. I'm of two minds about Gaga. On the one hand, I recognize and love her great subversiveness as an entertainer and media figure in the pop music realm. One the other hand, I really don't think she has anything new to offer us musically other than warmed over Christina Aguilera redux with occasional house music trappings and a touch of EBM influence.

That said, I love blogger Lesley Kinzel's close reading of some of Gaga's videos and parsing of her media image, particularly in this entry about Gaga's video for "Alejandro" (horrible song, interesting clip) in comparison to some of Madonna's formerly groundbreaking/subversive imagery. Click here to read it.

As a Gaga gift, I'll link to Kinzel's entire group of 'Gaga Scholar' posts, here, for your edification. Definitely worth a read if you're a Gaga fan, imho. Enjoy!

That's exactly my problem. Gaga's entire appeal is aesthetic. As bold, and as innovative as she is with imagery, she's extremely conservative musically. Apparently, she grew up as a vastly prodigal musician but it rarely serves as anything but to pad up her portfolio so she can feign legitimacy when presenting her very powerful imagery. She simply seems to do it to duplicate popular form rather than creating interesting new ones.

Problem is, all of this skews, and perverts, and disports the point. I personally never liked the appeal of Gaga because of the ignorance of people to acknowledge people who match Gaga's power and imagery. But do it with the boldness of melody, not overproduced music videos.

Recently, though, I've actually gained interest in a Gaga related topic. After months of being so tired of Gaga's shock imagery, and bland music I somehow bumped onto this Lina Morgana thing. ****ing amazing national enquirer-like story of this young singer who worked with Gaga, and apparently jumped off a ledge a very short time before 'The Fame' came out. Apparently, Gaga was assigned to help her write songs, and do backup vocals. Gaga was said to be a more conservative artist, and Morgana was the outrageous costume changing chameleon.

Claims are that after her death, Gaga almost immediately adopted a similar persona, and made it big. Years later, her mother came out, and sued her over this. The more I read into it, the more I realized the entire thing was a handful of articles which confirmed nothing but Lina Morgana existing(and there's tons of youtube videos of her existing that seem fairly realish), and apparently there's a proven police report where there was a suicide jumper.

A few other factors to the story, etc. It then gets really creepy by trying to match the imagery in the 'Pokerface' video. Anyway, after a bit of being sucked into this thing after months, and months, trying to avoid anything Gaga related, I realized that this was one of the most brilliantly self contained publicity hoaxes I have ever seen in my life. I then got a little scared I was pulled in so easily, and came here, where Vanilla was claiming to be Gaga which lead to a bizarre series of replies because I was in a strange mood at the time.
