Robbie Williams - Like or hate :-)

I am one of the likers :-)

I think he is an amazing singer, and has a cool attitude:drummer:

It seems he`s had some hard periods in his life, but overcome them. I guess I can see a bit of me in him, which proberly is why a really like him.

A good old stand up lad ;-)

Tell me why you do or dont like?

ShadowsScream 07-10-2010 12:56 AM

I like Robbie. He has some good songs.

mohtaref 07-13-2010 10:46 AM

Like of course :)

scottsy 07-17-2010 11:46 AM

Ugh, can't stand him... always comes across as a big ape - ish buffoon to me...

stephenoloughlin 07-22-2010 04:04 PM

Robbie is great live I think. But him rejoining Take That breaks my heart!

That did ruin it quite a bit with me, of course it did not hurt his story too much when all's said and done in the Pop group manner as he did prove himself to be one of the more enduring entertainers. Actually for a while, I actually respected his move away from the Teen Pop sound, although some of his stuff was too self-conscious and the self-depreciating humor through The Late 90's that showed in some of his music did get a bit tiring. Still, good vocals in a David Cassidy kind of way (and I meant that in a positive manner) - They carry the show very well.

Not a fan, but I do check up on some of his songs from time to time.

right-track 07-22-2010 05:32 PM

He can't sing. His range is limited and his song writing ability is virtually non existent.
Noel Gallagher said it best when he described him as, "the fat dancer from Take That!"

One book that should exist - A collection of comments by Noel Gallagher. It may not be 100% classic like the Keith Richard book, but it would be one hell of a excellent and hilarious read.

scottsy 07-22-2010 09:32 PM

Yes it should be published "the Noel Gallagher Qoute Book"... the guy is a bit of a tool, but he does make some excellent one lined references to other musicians / artists, for certain! can be quite the funny guy!

jackhammer 07-23-2010 07:07 PM

I would like to think I have open mind regarding all music but he is talentless, boring and he actually has very bad musical tone.

No identity, personality or musical prowess.

I cannot stand Phil Collins but at least he can play drums and produce a few good tracks. RW is a stain and how he is still around is astonishing.

TheCunningStunt 07-23-2010 07:41 PM

Is this the worst thread on MB?

No, the borefests about the scum are usually the worst and bore the arse off the rest of the country.

You didn't win it did you? :D

Good luck next season ;)

Robbie is a classic example of hype without substance. I get the impression he doesn't even like what he's doing, but he signed a contract and got loads of money, so he has to drag himself into the studio and be a good boy for the men in suits.

The absence of Phil Collins from any kind of recording studio these last few years can only be a good thing. That said, I do like "In the air tonight", as long as I don't hear it too often. Not that that excuses his numerous subsequent musical atrocities.

scottsy 07-24-2010 04:53 PM

Awww, i have a soft spot for Poor Phil... he definitely has some very weak material in his solo catalogue, but I always thought he was always still in good form when working with his Genesis buddies... and up until he sustained a back / neck injury, he could still play the hell out of a drumkit.

I think you're a Villa fan, but I really hope you're not:

He optimises every Villa fan I've ever met - a bit of a mong.

Plus, United >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Robbie f*cking Williams.

right-track 07-26-2010 10:59 AM

Wow...it's Duncan Thicket!
What a spanner.
And I bet he's right handed too!

The Villa mong>>>>>>>>Robbie Williams.

wood 08-31-2012 06:13 AM

Great performer, I heard he's always to nervous to gone onstage but you can't tell.
Nice music and humor. Check the clip of Misunderstood

cyberball94 09-04-2012 10:33 AM

I like the way he express his music. And how he relates his song with the video clip, it's great. I seldom watched his live performances, but I think it's pretty good.:D

JamesTuffnell 09-12-2012 07:25 AM

hate

Trollheart 09-13-2012 07:20 PM

It's easy to hate (fun, too!) but you have to give the guy credit. He pulled himself out of some serious addiction, went solo when no-one really knew or cared who he was, and succeeded on his own terms. At least he writes (some of) his own stuff, isn't a manufactured commodity and, at the back of it all, I really don't think he's taking himself too seriously. I get the feeling he's sort of standing backstage thumbing back at the world with a "get them!" look. Course, the money helps... :D

All Robbie haters avoid my journal in the next few weeks, as I'll be, hopefully, putting together my special on him for the "Gone solo in the game" slot. Jackhammer, you have been warned: don't come crying to me later!

LillyW 09-16-2012 04:19 PM

neither like nor hate - somewhere in between

Janszoon 09-16-2012 06:22 PM

I'm pretty sure I've never heard a single song by this guy.

Well let's correct this...

It's like some kind of magic.

Trollheart 09-17-2012 04:45 AM

I prefer this one: plays into Janszoon's sense of the different, the absurd and the, well, weird...

WhOoSh 09-30-2012 02:10 PM

Like

Not my style of music but he does it so well.

Ben Butler 10-10-2012 03:46 PM

I love Robbie. Great singer and entertainer.

DirtyPop 10-24-2012 06:43 PM

Robbie Williams definitely has had his fair of massive hits (most in the UK)....but I feel like he hasn't had a really good tune in some time.

s_k 10-24-2012 08:47 PM

I generally dislike the music Robbie makes. I do admit he has a certain flair with everything he does, but it's just not my kind of thing.
Except for...

I love that song :)

max_nin 04-17-2013 07:39 AM

to hate?! why
he's very nice...love him!

If there's one to hear, choose Love Supreme.

neardeathexperience 04-20-2013 07:38 PM

I don't care what anybody says that Angels song sung by thousands at a concert is a pop rock anthem of the first nature!

chopinlizst 04-27-2013 12:54 AM

some links to his "more famous" songs perhaps?

Cuthbert 04-27-2013 04:44 AM

I hate him. Can't stand him, mostly because he is from Stoke and has that awful half-Scouse, half-posh Midlander accent but also because he sings other people's Swing songs in the style of SHIT and is a cheesy bastard. Rudebox ffs (just seen Goofle already posted that.)

He's also to blame for one of my most hated people ever, Jonathon Wilkes.

Seriously search 'Jonathon Wilkes' on Wikipedia and look at what he's famous for. The guy's a complete dickhead.

Rock DJ and Millennium are probably the two that are most well known other than Angels. The video for the former caused a lot of fuss when it came out.

According to Wiki: He was in the production of Dick Whittington at Stoke-on-trent's Regent Theatre playing the role of Dick.

??

On robbie, love the fact he will perform on TV completely pilled off his head but hate his music. That being said, I will admit to doing Angels on karaoke...

In 2009.

Jonathan Wilkes (born 1 August 1978 in Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent) [1] is a songwriter and friend of singer Robbie Williams.
That is literally all he is famous for.

ThePhanastasio 04-28-2013 12:39 AM

I loathe the bastard. The only song on this side o' the pond that received play worth a damn was "Millennium" and that song sucked.

So lets back up for a second you are not fond of him because of his accent? Really what about the clothes he wears, or the cars he drives, or the colour of his pet dogs????? His talent speaks volumes unlike yours.

Paul Smeenus 05-04-2013 07:46 PM

I don't believe that's it's humanly possible to be less interested in anything than my utter disinterest in RW

I would rather stare at a bowl of mashed banana pulp for 10 hours that listen to RW for two seconds

*edited to add: it's extremely rare for me to even look at a thread of an artist that doesn't interest me, but hey, you asked. Well, 2ean did. :)
