Default K Pop

So! Who is into K Pop? I think it blows a lot of Western pop into the weeds. Here are some great examples that make me want to learn Korean!

Reasons why I think it's great is:

* They dance well with intense choreography
* They're fierce
* Their style is better
* The fashion is amazing and slightly less slutty
* They're not fake looking

Hyuna

4MINUTE

Super Junior

^ I love the trance element to the track

Park Bom

2NE

SNSD

Anymore requests let me know. Oh and not to sound like a hipster but I have liked K Pop for years, unlike everyone else who's jumping on the gangnam style bandwagon right now.

That's me! I haven't really explored K-pop beyond the obvious, but Psy does seem to be more than a one-hit wonder from everything else I've heard by him so I may give those links a listen when I have a chance.

Agree with some of what you're saying but don't you think it's so intensely choreographed it looks a little fake?

I'm into kpop! Maybe a little too much though...it's like I've been lacking the joys of listening to pop music all my life, or maybe my music library has too much serious music. Dunno... Anyway, the things that really drew me into kpop were the fantastic visuals, dance choreography, and the fact that I can easily dance to the music. I'm really inspired by their dance choreography, and I find myself trying to emulating their style when I dance.

For some reason, I tend to like more of the music presented by the girl groups compared to the boy groups. I dunno why. Their music stales on me quicker. I don't like everything in kpop, of course, but Brown Eyed Girls is the only group for which I've actually made the effort to listen to their whole discography.

Here are just a few songs that I currently enjoy:

^I'm currently in the process of learning the moves for this song. Hah, fun stuff. Also, this video has lots of flashing colours.

^Tango-inspired kpop

^I find the instrumental to this song very interesting.

^Newly-debuted group that I hope will get more attention

Hmmm...a little quiet in here. Oh well. I'm still slightly obsessed with k-pop at the moment. Here are some nice recent releases:

Rainbow's recent comeback single is just atrocious. For some reason, their agency wants to hide songs like this on their album and not promote them.

Nine Muses can do no wrong so long as they have Sweetune composing their songs. This song also has a relatively decent rap for a k-pop song.

I really can't say exactly when. My guess is somewhere between 2006-2009 when new kpop idol groups forced themselves into the market with some very nice pop songs, and I think the quality has gone up since those years especially with the likes of Shinsadong Tiger and Sweetune perfecting their craft and the market becoming over-saturated with rookie groups wanting to make it big.

You're also very welcome. It's nice to know that someone enjoys some of the things I share. (That doesn't happen often.) And yes, my username is based off of the district in Hong Kong.

I might as well post some Brown Eyed Girls because I mentioned them before. They are by far the most vocally talented group in k-pop.

The climax at 2:54-3:07 is incredible because of the 'dolphin pitch'. It's unfortunate that they don't sing "Pop" during the chorus though.

These performances are from when they couldn't even get their singles to chart. Incredible vocal performances.

Honestly I only found out about K-Pop being awesome, not J-Pop. I will have to check out some J-Pop now!
