Desire - II.
A fantastic low key synth pop album with a lot of French language vocals over moody 80's inspired synth beats.

I enjoyed this very much. It made me feel like I was in a completely different place than my shabby bedroom. Thanks, jackhammer.

I know these guys from the Drive soundtrack and they have a connection with Chromatics. I usually get addicted to synth pop like this so got to give this a go. Thanks man.

Been listening to this one a lot recently, it seems Jeremih is in the mood for a late night booty call. Pretty cool r'n'b in the same vein as Miguel or The Weeknd, but a little more blunt with its intentions.

Electrophonic Tonic 05-30-2013 12:37 AM

I've been listening to a lot of synth pop lately (Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Erasure to name a few). The song that has stuck out to me the most has been Pet Shop Boys' 'It's a Sin'. While I enjoy the mellow tracks by Depeche Mode and the bounciness of Erasure, that bombastic pulsating dance flavor on 'It's a Sin' is something I would love to hear more of. Can anymore make a recommendation for synth pop, preferably 80's but that's not required, that is along those lines?

I like to listen to this track a lot in my car....it has an 80's vibe (Yay!)

Club 8 is a Swedish pop band I've been following since their days on Parasol Records (excellent label & net store which I wish never had never closed). In some ways they are similar to Saint Etienne but they have their own approach to indie electronic/dance pop. My favorite track off the new album is "Hot Sun" which unfortunately I couldn't find on youtube. Above the City is their most varied album to date and as much as I enjoy it, I still prefer their s/t album (which had a nice Everything but the Girl vibe to it) and The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming , their first release on the Labrador label.

Can't possibly let it show up on my Last FM.
I really like it. Gulp.

Hey, sorry if this isnt the best place to post this.. im hoping someone knows what song im trying to find.

I am hoping someone was listening to Fox FM in melbourne this morning.. they played a new song and I missed who they said it was and i cant find their playlist. I cant get thru on the fone line either and ive already emailed them. It sounded like new rhianna but it was a melbourne artist. There was a line something like "running with fire.... danger..." but I got nada on google for that either.

thanks for your help! It's stuck in my head and really annoying me that I only heard part of it!!!

thegotofan 06-05-2014 09:47 AM

Re: The Pop Recommendation Thread

Pink Grenade's "Let's Take it Naked" is super addictive! :)

But from a more gossipy point of view, their producer's recent statement is even better! Definitely look it up by simply googling (is that a verb?) Worldstar Record Label Makes statement :)

Broke Royals

My friend is in a band called Broke Royals and their new EP "The Luxury of Time" just came out. I think it's on Spotify. It's pretty great.

Zhanteimi 11-11-2014 03:39 AM

I really like baroque pop, such as Bon Iver, Owen Pallett, Sufjan Stevens, and Vampire Weekend.

I also really like indie pop, such as Faded Paper Figures and Kishi Bashi.

Anything else like these that I might fall in love with? Please...one recommendation per poster, or you'll paralyze me with too many choices.

How about Kyary Pamyu Pamyu?

Zhanteimi 12-22-2014 05:22 AM

^That certainly is pop...

Pet_Sounds 12-22-2014 08:42 AM

I'm not that familiar with the groups you mentioned, mordwyr, but my go-to indie pop recommendation is Fleet Foxes. They've got a folky sound -- their harmonies sound rather like CSN(Y), in my opinion -- with psychedelic and occasionally progressive elements. Try their eponymous album.

Zhanteimi 12-22-2014 05:41 PM

Fleet Foxes is excellent. Caught them at Glastonbury last summer! They seem to be more folk than pop, though.

yungtomselleck 01-22-2015 11:39 PM

Chester French is awesome

hey guys can you check out this cover and let me know what you think!!

I'd like to add Walk On The Moon to the list. "Anna Sun" is a great, upbeat, dance worthy song. The video cures what is giving you the blues.

The Omega Tribe

This summer for me is all about ol skool (80's & 90's) Japanese Funk & Pop jams. So when I discovered the 1986 Omega Tribe band It didn't take long for me to fall in love with em. The Omega Tribe was a very popular 80's Japanese J-pop band only really got started in 1983. Gotta say my favorite tracks are "Super Chance", "Reiko" and "Stay girl, pure girl". They are like Japanese version of the Beach boys due to what they mostly sing about.
