For me the verdict is still out on Jessie J: I didn't like "Do it like a dude" all that much but I really loved "Price Tag". so it could go either way for me...

That and, for a song that claims it's not about the money, it's sure making them/her a lot of money.

As for the 'women can do everything guys can', it's all well and good until someone needs a jam jar opened
Agreed.

It is even more ridiculous since I just heard this song on a commercial on television using their songs to help sell clothes.

A friend of mine adores Jessie J, and has tried numerous times to get me into her music. She has said to me that the stuff she puts out as singles are catchy and have no real meaning because she wants to bring in a wider audience to hear her other songs, songs that on the whole spread a message that 'you can do whatever you want'.

Thinking about it, that sounds alot like how I describe Lil B's music lol.

But anyway, I have listened to some of her non radio songs, and I was underwhelmed to be honest. She is nothing special to me, and is just this years Lily Allen/Kate Nash, a female singer from London who will get alot of media attention and hype, which will settle down after a while and we'll hear less and less from her.

Clothes and shopping of clothes are very popular amongst a young, female age group so Jessie J sang something they can relate to which obviously made it sell.

This is a marketing tactic. You can't blame commercials for using this song to
sell their clothes because if Jessie J is advocating it than people will want to buy. It is the way the commercial world works.

Obviously it's a marketing tactic but that is not a defense for the song seeming ridiculous being used as an advertisement.

I know what you are saying, but just think, this is a good message, and in order for it to reach a lot of people, it has to go through these traditional pop music outlets for a lot of people to hear it. I love the line "When the sale comes first, and the truth comes second."

"Price Tag" is a great song, but I also like "Do It Like a Dude". She's definitely a skilled lyricist. Have you guys heard "Nobody's Perfect" yet?
