I think it has a lot to do with when you reach an age when you start noticing songs and since the majority of people have a radio going somewhere or sometime in their house the current music the stations play is going to get noticed quickly...........For me it was the late 70's , early 80's when I began taking note of the music I heard/saw on TV and to me that defines a relatively good era imo. You can keep the crap that's churned out today on mainstream radio

Yeh in that earlier period you could listen to what was on the radio and still like it now as well. From the later 80s onwards I'm not sure that is the case as much, music has been more about who gets marketed the most and often that hasn't been indicative of the best out there.
