typical pooka rant when i was a teen...

when i was a teen grunge and alternative was taking off and it was the mainstream. i thought oh boy oh boy am i effin lucky look at all this kickass music.
now that im in my thirties i realize it was just more skitt and had no real lasting appeal.

True. Plus, Japan and California were still far outclassing Seattle when it came to output at the time.

That's what keeps their energy levels up. Otherwise if you did cocaine without that type of music it might kill your buzz.

I think of it like this... Most people have their handful of go-to bands they listen to when they are chillin or doin something around their place. Everyone chooses somethin different for the most part. But all these people also like to party. The girls like to drink and act slutty and the guys like to drink and find the slutty girls. So at clubs or parties, everyone is listening to the same music. And that's why it becomes mainstream, cause you have the driving force of the music industry (teenage and college age kids, mainly girls) listening to it every weekend. The only focus of these songs is to get people to party and dance. Mainstream rap in my opinion is just pop music for the most part. It's all just designed to be played at parties and clubs.

So, that was a kinda pointless rant. Anyways, I don't really have a problem with mainstream music AKA the Top 40. It serves it's purpose. I used to be all like "Lil Wayne and Drake suck, no way they are better than Big L or Nas!" But now I realize it's like comparing two different genres. The players aren't playing the same game so I can't compare them. But I pretty much think mainstream music is going to continue just being party music.

Nas is mainstream, top 40 music though so I'm not really sure that's the best comparison.

Definitely don't agree. I think music started going downhill in the late 70's and got back up in the early 90's. It's really good now if you ask me. It's just the mainstream music that, if you ask me, went down in the late 70's and keeps getting lower, lower, lower... It's awful.

I believe there's one person... Who at some point started an AL topic. But apart from that... Don't think so

Whether he's good or bad is kind of beside the point.

Or you might stop enjoying that type of music.
