Agreed.

and thank god she can sing and we can ignore that some of the lyrics on ultraviolence are so so cringeworthy (I'm looking at you brooklyn baby)

i actually love the lyrics on Brooklyn Baby

a great satirical look at the "hipster" trend

Yeah, I think some of her lyrics are okay too. If you take them 100% seriously, then you probably won't like them, but I think there is more to it than just saying corny rubbish.

I think if she wasn't such a big star and just a random chick who came out with "Ultraviolence" I highly doubt people would be going round calling the album trash. It's far from it. And even if you dislike her or think her music is whatever, I can't fathom how anyone would hate it.

After eagerly anticipating this and searching for leaks every day, I've still not listened to it despite having it for over a week.

I will listen to it over the weekend and report back. I heard the lead single and thought it was OK but the hook was shit.

When Lana goes in on "Cola" my mind frazzles for a moment and there is only joy.

She has some good lines that are vivid and draw imagery interspersed with cheese; but the cheese somehow still draws imagery: Blue Jeans is a stellar example of this mixture:

"Blue jeans, white shirt
Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn
It was like, James Dean, for sure
You're so fresh to death and sick as ca-cancer
You were sorta punk rock, I grew up on hip hop
But you fit me better than my favourite sweater, and I know
That love is mean, and love hurts
But I still remember that day we met in December, oh baby!"

She has a wonderful voice that carries the lines very well and kind of fits the style. I can see how people see it as chav art, but it's still beuatiful chav art.

The lyrics are fully shit to be honest, but it doesn't really bother me.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-04-2014 06:07 PM

I've listened to her album over and over. I love it. If you read some of the reviews people have actually broken down what hers songs mean and you then realise it's not as cheesy as you might think.
