i take issue only with this statement.

i was at the benefit show in stratford ontario that my buddy put on to get justin a drumset. he was pretty good at drums, he went to the same church as nathan, and his mom was broke. he played drums at this benefit. i also saw him playing guitar and singing on the steps of the avon theatre fairly frequently. the only problem i have with your statement here is that you say he is a child prodigy. he's simply not. he's good at stuff, yeah. but no prodigy. i respect him as a talented youngster and nothing more. usher is no idiot. you can take anyone, make them practice something enough, and they'll be damn good at it. IMO, he didn't actually learn how to sing until this year. he's always had a decent voice and could pull off cute little blonde kid renditions of pop tunes, but only after several years of having probably the best vocal trainers in the world did he learn how to sing properly.

"prodigy", to me, means a master. i just don't think bieber is that rare.

I personally don't like him, but I can understand why some girls would. He's a kid who isn't entirely bad looking, and on top of that he is filthy rich. What's there not to like if you're a teenager and you still dream about your perfect barbie house?

I can't tell you the amount of times I've gone to youtube to look up reference recordings of piano pieces I'm struggling with, only to find some eight-year-old asian kid playing it flawlessly. Good to know that soul-crushing feeling isn't exclusive to pianists.
