Come on, early 90s pop is the trash bin for commercial music. 2 Unlimited was not really that cool. Neither were Aqua, Rednecks, DJ Bobo, Scatman John, Whigfield, Take That, East 17, 4 Non Blondes, Haddaway, Enigma, Dr. Alban, Michael Learns to Rock, Ace of Base, Deep Forest, Captain Jack, Blümchen ..

Come on, the early 90s (and the 90s in general) craplist just goes on and on. You can love crap, but it's still poo.


It was insanely commercial. If you could put a danceable beat on it, you could sell anything. I remember a CD which was called 95 Ultra Rave or something and it had a song which went "how would you like to **** me in the ass?!" with some heavy ass bass drums and rave **** on it. That kind of crap would not sell today .. I hope.

90's pop was as bad as todays pop and whoever mentioned 2 unlimited needs to be shot. Even factoring nostalgia they were bllody awful. It will be Technotronic threads next :D

No but bands were auditioned in the same way , just behind closed doors.

If anything TV talent shows reduce the number of manufactured girl bands/ boy band because nobody in their right mind is going to try & compete with someone who's already doing pretty much the same thing and who already have an audience of millions as a head start.

Some of these bands are actually mid and late 90s acts, like Aqua and Rednex for example. And I have to admit, I like quite a bit of the stuff you listed. :p:

I don't know why anyone would think that early 90s pop is less commercial than current pop though. I'm certainly with you on that point.

Well, the album it ended up on came out in 1990 so you were sort of right. It's just the single that's from 89.

Anyways, it's not like songs from 89 never got played on the radio / MTV / whatever in the early 90s. :)

Nobody mentioned Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls? ;) I was born in the early 90s and there was nobody to teach me better, so of course I was a huge fan of Aqua, Backstreet Boys, etc, the stuff I wouldn't go near today XP I haven't listened to her in ages but I think Kylie Minogue might actually be alright. I have to admit, though, I am a fan of Scatman (just the one song)....
