Early 90s Pop
 

I can't stand most of the mainstream music that comes out today, but when i hear pop from the early nineties like Prince, Micheal Jackson, Kylie Minougue, 2 Unlimited etc.. I don't mind it. And the same goes for most pop that was recorded before then. I think is probabaly becuase I was young back then and its purely a nostaligic thing.

Does anyone else feel the same way? Or Have any other theories on the matter?

I think it wasn't quite so oversold and over commercialized back then. Maybe.. just maybe it had actual meaning.

I definately think it's a nostaligia thing, but damn, I love it all... Especially all those funny electronic dance groups like Real McCoy and Rockell.

I Agree Dr. Luncheon! The Whole Pop has become complete rubbish like you said 'old fashion' pop is well better than now-a-days!

i think lots of music gets overplayed on the radio too. I like son]gs that you're pleased to hear, not ones that you're sick of cos they've been played six times already that day. Especially that bloody Usher track! it is so annoying!

Excuse me while I belly laugh. 2 Unlimited?! Its not that I am great fans of the others you mentioned but how on earth can you put 2 Unlimited along side them?! Apart from being absolute ****e they were a completely different genre of music.

Yeah sadly he's well and truly come back. He re released Mysterious Girl and now he's just releasing some other crap.. sorry, song. :rofl:

2 Unlimited is cool. So are Tag Team. Everybody loves the few hits they came out with. Their songs are especially fun to hear at sports games.

Back in the early 90's we didn't suffer from Reality TV and the likes of the X Factor. Music was judged then on its' own merits and to some extent the strength of the accompanying video which could dramatically influence sales, whereas now we are being smothered by mass media for a handful of artistes; not judged on anything except how much money someone is prepared to spend on phone votes. This not only distorts the market; we are being brainwashed in order to line the pockets of a few individuals for nobody's benefit except their own.

The 90's dance pop that was always on the radio was never very good, but I suppose there is a nostalgia factor today. I can listen to Haddaway or No Mercy or Real McCoy and enjoy myself, but this stuff gets tiresome pretty quickly.

And it really goes without saying that the best Prince and Michael Jackson stuff came out in the '80's.
