They were in the Guinness book of records for the highest paid act of that year, they tend to check their sources pretty tightly.
Which was then broken by Jackson the following year ironically. If it says Jackson one year and Van Halen the year before I don't see why I shouldn't believe it.

If MJ released the Thriller album in November of 1982, of course Van Halen would have had the biggest tour act that year because MJ did not go on tour and had just released his album. By the time the Thriller album was released and took off we all can agree MJ was WAYYYY bigger than them. MJ did not tour for Thriller till 84 which broke all kinds of records and was more successful than any of Van Halens tours. |
