^ Hey, thanks, grindy! I first came across Mulatu Astatke when a guy called s_k, who sadly no longer posts here, recommended them to me. Being busy at the time, I let them drop to the bottom of my to-do list, but listening to this album you've posted, I'm most impressed. What a cool sound!

More rock than pop, but an irresistible fuzzy guitar riff from Brazil, 1968:-

Of course a good source for mainstream Euro-pop is this annual competition, covered by misspoptart:-

I'm a huge K-Pop, Romanian pop, and Spanish pop music fan, I would highly encourage you to check 'em out. Too many suggestions to post here and lots of threads you can check!

Do K-pop with Derek: Korean music
A few people have come and gone here: A New Turkish Song everyday. There's good stuff.
My favorite: Romanian house. Ok so it's not really pop, but it's glorious and definitely the most popular kind of music in Romania.

There you go

This one starts off pretty generic but I've found myself listening to it all day. It's almost impossible to experience caffeine withdrawals with this playing:

Thanks and try this one:

It's an "old" song but I have never really heard her outside of Sweden. Same with Molly Sandén although I know she is trying to break into the US market.

She totally went for it without taking it over the top and pretending like its something it's not. So basic yet fun... Unabashed yet solid pop. It makes me want to go back in time.

If you like Scandinavian music, you should check out the "everything rockabilly" thread... Assuming your interests cross over into that genre, of course. Same "feel" to the music though and I think you'll be surprised at how skilled they perform (what began as) an American genre.
