I'm primarily interested in the 80s here for the nostalgia, and have amassed a pretty large collection on Spotify (link ), here are some of my (maybe a bit less known, at least for me) favs:

When In Rome - The Promise

Yazoo - Nobody's Diary

A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)

hit that perfect beat boy bronski beat (1995, ZYX Music)

the 12" isn't bad.

maniac michael sembello (1983, casablanca)

For the longest time you couldn't listen to this version (from the film, Flashdance) on YouTube, Spotify and many of the other major streaming platforms. Rights issue, obviously. Glad that's over. Also didn't realize how much Jennifer Beals' body was doubled in the movie until recently. The famous breaker, CrazyLegs, fills in for Beals on the spinning/locking segments of the dance room routines.

Songs Of Faith And Devotion Depeche Mode (1993, Mute/Sire/Reprise)
Not sure if the whole lp holds up but the opening track still sounds great. Saw them at Madison Square Garden shortly after the album's release. Great stage show. Not especially fond of the video.

Fall Of The Plastic Empire (2001, Buddyhead) is the debut lp from the rock band, Burning Brides. Not bad. Went to school with front man, Dimitri Coats. Band's a perfect fit for him.

arctic snow

They later did a song for the movie, Suck, where Dimitri starred as a lead vampire.

flash and bone (2008)

I have always loved this song , and the album Songs Of Faith And Devotion is one of the band's greatest artistic achievements.

Why? They certainly played it to death. I grant you - it’s a great song but the over saturation of the airwaves (couldn’t avoid it on the radio) with it makes it seem like a jingle now. Same with Sinêad O’Connor’s Prince cover that year -

Another iconic 1990 jam

"Crazy" became one of Seal's biggest hits, reaching the top five in the United Kingdom and first top ten in the United States.
This song was inspired by the crazy events of 1989-90, in particular the fall of the Berlin Wall..
Imho there are much newer songs that sound much older ..;)

Good ones! Morisette, of course, rocked the mid 90s. And had the humility to admit her pretensions on songs like Ironic, which really isn't about irony - just bad luck. :) Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is one of my favorites albums.

Sinead O'connor is one of my favorite singers.

The second single from Sinead’s 1987 debut, ‘The Lion and The Cobra,’ was nominated for a Grammy, and it introduced the world to 20-year-old singer.

I Am I Feel by Alisha's Attic is one of my fave pop songs from the late 90's. Loved them! (My attempt at posting a YouTube video failed so I will try again some other time!)
