I think its 6.

Jonah 02-06-2005 10:28 AM

According to www.allmusic.com, it says:

Group Members

* Jeremy Ward
* Ikie Owens
* Cedric Bixler
* Omar Rodriguez

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-06-2005 10:33 AM

Ah well there was somewhere I saw that said there were six members... I managed to find this though:
"The Mars Volta have a sixth member who always remains unseen. He engineers the sound effects rife throughout the band's recordings, including the bird sound effects on this song." And that was on songfacts.com or something like that..

Thst description is of Jeremy Ward, who died a couple of years ago. He was Jim Ward from Sparta/ATD-I's cousin. Mars Volta is two full members, and they have been through about fifteen or so touring musicians. I think they're settled with about three others for their live shows now.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-06-2005 01:24 PM

Ah right.. I wouldnt know, not a huge fan.

franscar 02-06-2005 01:25 PM

No, nor am I. It's a good album, but they are a disgrace live.

maxwell-cu 02-11-2005 03:23 PM

i second intertiatic ESP being the best mars volta song, and probably one of the best songs ive heard in a long time from any band

Sneer 02-11-2005 05:15 PM

i think the only band that could challenge them for musical expertease is radiohead. i dont care what anyone says, the widow is just as good as all their other stuff and a lot better than anything they produced as sparta.

covle 02-12-2005 12:33 AM

"they" werent sparta though. cedric and omar were never in sparta.
inertiatic ESP is awsome, but this is the haunt (of roulette dares) is up there with it.

ph34r_of_heights 02-24-2005 06:46 PM

The Mars Volta!

Wow. I really don't know where to post this board, so this forum looks nice. Sooo.... I hear there coming out with a new cd. And a song over a half an hour long. It'll have like 5 songs? YEA! It'll be great! X3

IamAlejo 02-24-2005 06:54 PM

It does have five songs. Some of the songs are broken down into "chapters" so they say, it's pretty good.

SlayeReyalS 02-24-2005 09:48 PM

oh no... not them... PLEASE not them....

Invisible Spider 02-25-2005 02:06 AM

Whats wrong with The Mars Volta?

Sneer 02-25-2005 07:57 AM

they are far better than half of the ****ty metal bands around at the moment. cant wait to get the new CD, from what ive heard its class.

hopefornothing 02-25-2005 08:15 AM

i think their over rated by far

SlayeReyalS 02-25-2005 05:01 PM

Mrs Volta are an all out stupid band and they expect people to listen to them when they're songs are a half hour long each. and there is no bass. its stupid.

David Frost 02-25-2005 05:45 PM

"anywhere tough and filled with metal heads"

you are not allowed to talk anymore.

SlayeReyalS 02-25-2005 06:55 PM

im talking right now.

David Frost 02-25-2005 07:12 PM

Shut up & listen to a Dio album

Zealious 02-25-2005 08:03 PM

SlayeReyalS you're an embarrassment to metal.

No one is really pissed at you if that's what you're trying to accomplish.

One song is 30 minutes, others are 5-10...some longer.

so you're the greaterst metal head in the world, is that what you're saying? the mars volta sucking doesnt make me any less of a metal head.

David Frost 02-26-2005 01:58 AM

the mere fact that you consider yourself a metal head is just sad. thats already despite the fact that you probably only listen to like slayer, metallica, and pantera.

metalheads will not kick my ass because anyone that considers themself the said title is most likely a greasy 13 year old that never leaves his or her room

SlayeReyalS 02-26-2005 02:28 AM

you're such a loser. no most people who consider themselves metal heads are never 13. when they're 13, they're in 7th grade and still think rap is in. metal heads are high school or above, probably past college. if you think that Phil from Pantera couldnt kick your ass, you have very high self esteem dude.you arent afraid to go up to metal heads and get yourself killed. thats pretty brave.

and no, metal heads have long hair, and that gets greasy quick. we keep our hair away from grease. i shower once a day, maybe even more than once, because my hair flies around better when im headbanging when it is free from grease.

and if you look closely in the rock/metal forum, you do realize i have been posting a lot about bands that are really good, bands that are ok, and bands that i dont like. i listen to a lot more than slayer, metallica, and pantera, but thank you for pointing out my top 3 favorite bands. but i also listen to what my brother listens to, and he listens to a lot of hardcore. even if im not into it, i still listen to it, because its talented. metal has more talent than any other genre in music and you know it.

and i call myself a metal head because i am one, and its not sad at all, because losers like you are a lot sadder. you can go bash my music, of course ill stand up to it, and you can go ahead and stand up to your little mars volta, but dissing the people for who they are, when they didnt do **** to you, it just shows that you are a low life who cant get to know the world becuase you're a judger. and people who judge others on their music are, in fact, losers.

and sayign "and you are still ***" shows your immaturity. usually moderators are smart people who can handle the forums. you are no where near that if you are that immature. so get mature, get a life, and start shutting up.

i already know that you are going to start up with how metal heads are idiot losers right? well, im not one of those idiots who purposely type like this --> hey u ill kik yo butt cuz im 2 koo 4 u!!!111one!1 --> though a lot of people actually do type like that and it disgusts me. so just because i'm metal doesnt mean im not smart. if anything, im way smarter than you.

now, im waiting for another immature comeback from you, David Frost. i'll wait.

David Frost 02-26-2005 02:55 AM

im sure the dudes from pantera have better things to do in their lives than walk around referring to themselves as "metalheads". and i really am interested, how old are you?

i have long hair stupid. so i dont even know where that comes into play. but the fact that you proudly state that you sit around and headbang all day kind of does nothing but supports my 13 year old "metalhead" stereotype theory.

you have already shown your complete musical ignorance in other posts about the hardcore genre. norma jean is NOT hardcore. sorry buddy. and as for metal being the most talented, i dissagree. metal is a talented genre in the art of guitar to an extent. however, creativity lacks gigantically in this genre. bands like the mars volta not only are more talented than 90% of the metal bands playing right now, but they are more creative than 100% of them. and as for it being the MOST talented genre, i have one thing to say... Jazz.

calling yourself a metalhead is sad. your not. thats the same as kids calling themselves emos. you are yourself, and you are not dictated by a musical genre. when you call yourself a metalhead you are essentially limiting your personality. and that is the purest form of immaturity

im not a moderator because im nice or because i sit around and delete bad posts all day. i was made a mod because of my knowledge of music, something that you obviously lack. so please, before you go and insult another amazing band like the mars volta, just be prepared to be attacked when you blantantly and openly set yourself up for it.

end rant.

I really like The Mars Volta. Their new cd Frances The Mute is AMAZING! I got a leaked copy. I'm definitly gonna buy the real thing but I couldn't wait. ALL HAIL SPANISH INFLUENCED MATH ROCK! And the new album shows their more "mathy" side. Very complex and off time. sounds cool as hell.

Sneer 02-26-2005 11:01 AM

argh i get payed in 2 days and the first im going to do is buy frances the mute. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat band.

Raine 02-26-2005 11:03 AM

Here it is I'm probably one of the biggest fans of Mars Volta and I've been gone for a few weeks and I come back to see a thread about them. And It's probably made by someone who hasn't been waiting for this album to come out for as long as I have and I've been waiting for 6 count them 6 months.
And I'm still waiitng. The first song i heard off the album was "The Widow" and I instantly fell in love with it.

And I have been in love with them for a pretty long time. My favorite song by them is off one of their previous albums. I'd tell you the name of the album but I don't remember it and even if I did I'd have difficulty spelling it. But the name of the song is "Son Et Lumiere'

And Sorry for the delayed return. School and tall guys have kept me away. Writing and sports are fighting for thir place though.
Where the heck is my friend with those blasted nutter btuters and the ice cream

Peace out

Wow. Hope that was a play on words. If you want check out the songs "Memphis will be Laid to Rest" or "Bayonnetwork". Two of my favorites.

covle 02-27-2005 11:37 PM

i was listening to this album last night in my mates car. unreal cd. we were also listening to the new trail of dead album. cannot wait to buy them when they get released.
if your a fan of mars volta checkout text. text is a great band, definately worth having a look at.

riseagainstrocks 02-28-2005 11:10 AM

new norma jean album is a let down. probably for 2 reasons. Josh Scogins isn't the vocalist anymore. and Bless The Martyr was near perfect. Sorta like converge's Jane Doe. You Fail Me is good, but Jane Doe is beyond amazing...but back on topic

buy Frances The Mute. comes out everywhere tommorow. amazing.

IamAlejo 02-28-2005 02:19 PM

It isn't even out yet. How's it a disappointment...even though I am mad Scogins isn't the singer. Went to their concert Friday, and it wasn't that bad. I think the new CD will be pretty damn good. Unearth was really good though.

I'm buyin Frances tomorrow, even though I've heard it, just thought I'd support the idea.

riseagainstrocks 02-28-2005 02:33 PM

^ thick as theives tour right? Its tommorow up here. I'm probably gonna go. I'm talking bout the songs I heard. If thats a gauge than its not near as good, but you never know. I pre-ordered it though. Gotta love Norma Jean anyway.
